I am trying to establish a small importing company here in Jacksonville, Florida USA.

My plan is to import 20 to 40 bikes a month for resale.  I have attempted to get this started by purchasing one bike to establish the honesty  of the company and timelines for delivery etc.

So far I have only wired money that was wasted as no bikes were ever shipped and no money was ever returned.

How can I find a honest dealer of high end road bikes?

Thanks for you thoughts

You need to understand how things work before you can have any success here.

Importing product from manufacturers overseas is all about quantities. So if you are unable to order a reasonable quantity of product on a regular basis then you best not try to buy from factories as legit factories will not consider your business to be of interest to them. This will leave you dealing with scammers and less professional factories that are willing to take your money.

Try to find a distributor back in your country and once your business is at a level that you can buy larger quantities then start to look at manufacturers overseas.

Its difficult to judge honesty of supplier by virtual communication. Trade experience with supplier can make you able to know his honesty. But follow few simple rules to do international trade with unknown suppliers. Those are,

-Check suppliers reliability from various sources like embessy, association, credit rating agencies etc.Use your personal insight to check reliability of supplier

-Check suppliers capability of production and supply

-Start with trial order with new supplier

-Do not pay advance until and unless you are sure for his reliability and capability

-Use secure payment terms that can deliver payment to supplier only after shipment or delivery

If you are beginner, recommend you to get expert advices for first few transactions
