Still for the New Traders: What an ST can do to Speed up Sales

Hello all,

This article is esspecially dedicated to Ms. Catherine Wu who read my previous article (Seminar 2: I am new, what should i do?) and then identified herself as an ST. She thinks that she has been trying herbest but the best for her is not yet to come.

Wheather you are an ST or a GT, the following approach should be applicable to all.

As a trader, we all are basically sales people. As a sales person, the objective of our activity is to sell.

To make it easier for you to understand, let us see how the convensional sales people work. These people are sometimes called direct seller.

A direct seller has a product or a set of product on hand. They would go around the neighbour, knock door to door and try to pursuate the house owner to buy their product.

Other direct sellers are not as direct as the 'door-knocking seller'.. Say a "Satay" food stall seller. Yes, they are mobile but they use a startegy in which they would stop and set up their stall.

What we do as traders are not much different from the above mentioned sellers. The obejctive is the same, how to sell our products to as many buyer as possible.

Here, the keyword is as many "prospective buyer" as possible. How do we get as many people or prospective buyers as possible to know our product and in the end to buy? The followings are several tips for you:

1. Create a good website. This probably sounds technical, but it's not that hard to do. These days many provider company offer user friendly website builder. All you have to do is to follow the instruction and there you have your good website. A good website is not only good in looking, but also informative and honest. One very important key for you to know is that try to update your website as regularly as possible so that it will get a good rate when search by the search engine. The more regularly you update your website, the higher rank it would possibly get from the search engine. This gives your website more possibility to be clicked by people in related industry.

2. Relying much on your website to do your job will only weaken your sales spirit. Esspecially for ST, as Ms. Catherine Wu told me,

"Catherine Wu: I just feel that i am just waiting for customers"

So, what can we do instead of waiting? If you are an ST, you are not just going to wait and do nothing but still get paid by the company, are you?

Then I can suggest you to start 'knocking on doors'. How? The answer is the search engine. Search for any company that you think would need your product. Here, you have to be crative in thinking what such word to use to seacrh for those companies. Sometimes you have to use indirect words to get to them.

I am starting selling crabs just recently. This because I have met a very strong crab suppliers and they aggree to supply me when i have buyers. The following list shows what i did to get me to the crab buyers:

1. Off course I use Alibaba in the first place. By entering the word 'crab' i search for any buying leads of crabs. No question, it worked! But then i thought it's not enough. I do the next step.

2. I change the word 'crab' into 'seafood', and started another seacrh. Again, it worked! Some buyers did not exactly post that they are looking for crab, but they said they want to buy seafood from any seller. This expands my contacts. I repeat this thing with other related words that i think potentially will bring me to crab buyers. But still, I think this is not enough. I do the next step.

3. This time i repeat step 1 and 2 using other trading portal. Is this enough? No, not for me. I do the next step.

4. This time I use the search engine. Off course the first key words i search for is "wanted to buy crab". Does it work? Yes! I got more leads using this approach. When this keyword is over, i use another key word.

That's it!

It becomes boring sometimes. But by doing this, i make sure that i am actively doing my role. Not just waiting.

I know that even after doing so much effort, sales are still not to come yet. But remember, when you are still doing what you are doing, you will still have hope. Once you stopped, the hopes are gone forever. You choose, you decide.

I hope this article makes Ms. Catherine Wu happy. At least it makes me happy for sahring my experience. I hope it will make others who can learn from this article happy too.
