I have been sourcing products in China off and on for about 15 years now. I still find it somewhat hard to find factory's to produce the products I want to build.

For example, I identified about 15 factories on this web site that I thought could do the job. That was about a week ago and to date, at least 5 of them have not even replied.

The product is a handheld electronic game of medium complexity. We are going to be producing at least 300,000 in 2009 so not a small amount. Our primary clients are Wal-Mart and Target so do we have some standards like a ICTI certification. Additionally the factory will have to follow ASTM-F963 standards. We will be espoting this product to North America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. We are in the early stages of developing our second product which will be in development next year and in production for 2010.

I have tried posting buying leads on this web site but all I seem to get are unqualified factories or a lot of spam.

Am I asking for too much?

With the customers that you will be selling to you really want to make sure that there are absolutely no hiccups here. Many of those types of customers will have huge fines in their purchase contracts for late deliveries, faulty items etc.

My suggestion would be to find a professional company in China to represent your interests here and act on your behalf. Probably the best way to build this relationship is to visit China yourself and meet with the representative company and factories face to face.

As soon as a new customer starts to talk about product development I think most factories go cold as they know that 9 times out of 10 such 'development' go no where. Even in the case of the legit one there is a lot of work to be done and that is very difficult to do via email.

So a representative on the ground that understands your needs and can communicate these to the factory and work with the factory is going to be a huge advantage to getting this done right.

This is probably one of those cases where you really want to find a professional company rather than an individual to help you out.

Why not find a professional agent in China,  and ask them to find suppliers for you. They of course, should take some responsibity if your orders go wrong, and what you have to do is to pay one or two percent of the order amount to them. They can have everythng done for you, they help you track the progress of the orders, they inspect the products, and so on. It save much of your time and effort, and they may able to do things better because they are nearer to the supplier, they can pay a visit to the factory anytime.

To me it is much more difficult to find a real buyer than supplier. We are trading company in the field of all types of ladies' knitted underwear and swimwear. Whenever there's an enquiry, I reply promptly and I am so ready to serve my potential buyers, but only a few of them would reply my mail, I always console myself with the thought that it might take some time for them to think about my offer, but finally I would admit that the result is quite disapointing.

Something worth  to celebate is that, I maintain quite a good relationship with my older clients, they are now placing more orders to me than before.

i think some small but capable company  maybe can meet part of your requirement,but not all. Because as for a small company, it can not get the level you demand, they need a chance to be confirmed. Also, we are always looking for the buyers of molds overseas, and the same respones we received.   Do you think the free memeber is less integrity, would you give the free memeber a chance?

Sometimes the chance to you is from the members you leave out by mistake. So give a chance to small companys which can't meet all of your requirements or free members in Alibaba, talk with them and then you would know what kind of companies you can cooperate with.
