What can one do, when comes to protecting ones design when dealing with a manufacturing company.

The product is in it's infancy stage & to get patents on something that one is not sure of it's success is too costly?

Regards

Dave

Dear Dave,

The best way to protect your designs is to place your orders as soon as possible. First one in, first one out! In the fashion industry, you have to move like greased lightening or your competitors will take the credit. Unfortuantely, my friend, it's the way of the world. Time is never on your side. Everyone is looking for the competitive edge and once you have your plan of action in place, you can't afford to hesitate. There are no magic answers here.

Best regards,

Ivy, on behalf of Diane Freis ltd.

At begging, we'd better to show our last year styles for new manufacturer reference, quote the price and make the counter samples, if all of them are good during connecting and later samples, then we will make new one.

Then to discuss with suppliers about the design protecting. in fact, during we look  for new suppliers, we'd better to pay more attention more details not only price.

We could ask the manufacturer for Non-Disclosure Agreement(CDA) in order to protect your design.

Yes, sign an agreement that your design can not be release to any third party, and make the manufacturer serious with your design, besides, after your order with this manufacturer, visit their website to see whether they post your product there, if listed, ask them to cancel from their website, and tell them that if they do like this, you will not give them order any more.
