Where is the best source to purchase a large variety of designs of bed sheets in small quantities for a retail business?
Post 1 of 14
Is there a source where I can source several designs of bed sheets in smaller quantities from the same manufacturer without involving a purchasing agent ? I somehow feel that it would be more cost effective to have a portfolio or basket of designs shipped to my business as compared to trying to source several different designs from several different suppliers in small quantities. Any suggestions? [em9]

Replying to [faye]: The easy answer to this question is "NO". The reality of manufacturing is that most textile products are manufactured in factories that have the correct machinery to either make, stitch, assemble, or decorate the product. Most often times, the factories that have the best quality in specific cotton garments don't make other garments, at least not well. This means that if you contact a cotton bed sheeting factory, they will probably act as a sourcing agent to buy the strings and cloth bag that you are talking about. As you branch off into other bedding products, you are using your factory as a purchasing agent....

Replying to [faye]:The difficulty with international trade is the search for counterparties.

In other words, "YES", there is a supplier that can manufacture what you ask for but you have to find them.

Do you have a clear idea of the different designs you want, have you started sampling sheets from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, & Sri Landa?

You should avoid stock lots as you cannot vouch for the quality of the product that has been sitting around for a long period of time.

Dear Faye,

Buying in small quantity is really difficult.

What can be done is that you can find a factory that is producing bedsheet regularly  the quality that you are requiring in good quantity. You can ask the factory to produce extra as per your requirement.

In China we call it as combine order ie to say you combine your small order to someones big order.

In this case the mill will scan or courier you a copy of designs and colorways that they are going to produce. The customer can select the designs and inform the quantity to the mill. the mill will then produce this additional quantity.

The disadvantage is that the delivery is slow and the mill charge little extra for this facility.

Regards

What is my experience about it?
Indeed before I worked in a trading company,I handled one order as what you said,we supplied 12 designs bedding set to customer.
But if you want find a factory directly,I think it will be a little difficult. For the trading company, they have energy to find small factory who have no ability to export directly, they will accept such orders.
If a big factory, they would not cost so much time and cost on this.

keep seeking, you will find one,I am sure.
Any more information you need please also tell me here or by TM

True. I'm realizing that its unrealistic to obtain several designs from one place at one time , specially in small quantities.
Thanks for your reply, I'm going to look for designs from different places now, including stock lots....but the question of quality and consistency arises...for which a sourcing agent becomes necessary...hence we are back to the utilization of sourcing agents...
