I have been seeking out a manufacter-supplier of handbags and I have one I would like to order from however I just don't know which ones are real or not. They will accept paypal but I have to pay the 7% fee. Their prices are OK but I know these handbags are being sold cheaper because I can buy them in the US for 6.00 more. US sellers are making more than 6.00 on these handbags. I'm just afraid to send my money. If I get scamed and use paypal, will I get my money back? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If they are brand name products then the best way to check the seller is to contact the brand name company and find out if they recognize that seller.

Paypal will not protect you if you get scammed trying to buy what you should have known was counterfeit product. Check the small print at Paypal - they do not cover you for illegal transactions and if you make a claim on brand name product at unreasonably low prices then it wouldnt be too difficult for them to guess that they were fakes.

    1. Professional answer to your question.

    2. a reliable website

    3.With biggest sincerety.

The reason I asked about whether these were brand name products is because you suggested that the items you want to buy are already in the US market but more expensive. So if they are not brand name items I assume that they are being sold unbranded?

If you stay away from anything with a brand name on it then you are a long way there to avoiding scammers.

Most legitimate companies will send you product that you pay for but the biggest problem will be whether or not the quality of the product that they send you is equal to your expectations.

The payment method does not determine the safety of the transaction. The safety of the transaction comes with having someone visit the supplier and check the production before it ships and before you pay for it. That is the only way that you can be sure that you will not lose your money.

So you need to obtain samples, sign and return confirmation samples to the supplier so that they know the standard to produce at. You best develop a technical document outliining what you can and cannot accept quality wise. You then need to pay an inspection company or private assistant to visit the supplier to check that the production is the same as the signed confirmation sample.

You may be reading this and thinking that you dont want to go to this level of trouble as you are only buying a few items. If that is the case then you are probably best to buy from distributors and resellers from back home and thereby get consumer protection. If you buy from overseas you are on your own as there is no international consumer law.

In answer to your specific question - if you get sent something that you are not happy with then it 99% likely that you will not get your money back. This is why you need to check the product BEFORE you pay for it.

If I'm the OP, I would give Egernia a big applause and "best answer".

I believe the OP think like most western green hand re-seller. I just meet one from US. He is very upset to get cheated by Chinese supplier. He wanted to buy 2nd hand branded laptops. And thought the price from China is always the lowest one. So he pay through paypal and received nothing. Then complain Alibaba allow these kind of suppliers. I explain to him that he will always get cheated if he don't change his mindset.

Every business contains risks,  there is no better way to get your money back than LC, but compare to totally prepaid, the paypal seems a better way. But first thing first, you should know the supplier who you  are going to pay to well, and make sure they are real and  existing and can give you goods with good quality. Wish you good luck!

It is true, every business contains risks, to minimize the risks we need to have a strategy and information about the business it self, I just want to summarize and add a few point to this common problem.

    • You have to understand, doesn't matter the payment method is does not guarantee that it will make safe transaction.
    • Information, you need to get as much as information before doing the transaction, just like Egernia said, you could hired a private assistant to visit the supplier or if you have a friend, you could ask for help to do this. Getting information from a forum also possible to get the feeling of trust before buying.
    • Samples, yes .. once again Egernia correct, if they provide this then it would increase the feeling of safe transaction for you.
    • Product Specification, if they can release this kind of document, that would give you more information about how proffesional the distributor is.
    • Shipping Handling, it would be better if you have a little bit control of this, example you can use your own DHL Import Account, so they will send it using DHL link to your account, yes ... it would be more expensive, but you get the control of your shipment, and you could be sure that you will received it.
    • Testing, yes you could test the validity of the distributor by buying something really really low prices just to get the response on how valid is the distributor.

I hope I could help a little bit in here and yes ... buying something from oveseas is not easy not the same like buying in the superstore or traditional market, need a strategy in here if you want to be satisfied, you might feel that you do not have control of it. Once again ... you need to obtain more and more information before doing the transaction.
