Why do a lot of the buyers here only want quotations from paid members."Paid" members are not the only honest suppliers.I'm sure that some of the "paid" suppliers have scammed a few people. All I'm saying is that there are honest non-paying members here.Give us a chance.

the paid suppliers have more info upfront to be seen. Easier to verify then speak to them instead of asking for all the info then verifying. Not saying that all paid members are trustworthy, but 7 times out of 10 scammers usually do not want to pay anything out of pocket for something like trustpass or gold member

The reason why someone people only accept qoutations form paid members,..is that they think that serious buyers will devote their time and money if they actually want to get into a relationship.

Replying to [ladyD]:It isnot so easy for small companies to afford the paid membership. It is a fact that many small free members are also very honest and trustable.

Replying to [All of the above]:
Hi!
I thought I would put in my 2 cents regarding this discussion.
I agree that a lot of unpaid members are honest and trustworthy. Also, it is very likely that a lot of business does go to paid members. And, that would be an incentive to become a paid member.
However, I feel that the trade boards such as Alibaba cater more to home based start ups who are feeling their way through the business environment. Therefore, although honest and trustworthy, they would not want to spend money on membership fees if the relevant trade board does not generate business. And, if you go through discussions, you will see that there are a LOT of suppliers who are complaining about the lack of business.
The Internet has introduced a 'joker in the pack' because it helps to shorten the distribution chain. Although statistics suggest that the online business transactions are grwoing, the compliants of lack of business from many members suggests that the Internet is not very successful as yet. Therefore, the jury is still out there regarding the efficacy of online business.
Regards,
