Scammers on Alibaba - The Solutions
Post 1 of 12

If alibaba would just take a few simple steps they could knock out 90% of scammers on this site within a day.

I have personally met with 'management' at the alibaba offices on this matter and the wheels are apparently turning - but far too slowly in my opinion considering that the solutions require pretty much just the click of a mouse.

All they need to do is:

a. Use the key word technology that already exists on this site to block all foreign brand names and their derivatives from company listings and buy and sell leads on the site. This could be overridden manually in some cases where it was warranted rather than the current system of patching up problems. That simple step would put an end to most scammers opportunity to offer these products and also prevent from unknowingly posting buying leads for something that they cannot buy legally.

b. Then alibaba needs to ensure that all contact information listed by sellers is accurate so that buyers and the authorities can track down sellers if something goes wrong. Alibaba sells memberships via a myriad of offices throughout China so the sales people who accept a commission for selling a membership should be held personally responsible for ensuring that the seller is actually at the address that the sales person puts through on the paperwork. Again a simple step using current systems at Alibaba that would get rid of a lot of scammers.

c. Finally, alibaba should be more transparent and proactive about dealing with reports of scams on this site. I have reported a number of obvious scam companies over the years and outlined why they are scammers and alibaba management are 'OK we will look into it' yet those members remain active with no reply from alibaba. Once again alibaba has a system where users can complain about sellers on the Safe Trading Forums, so they should use this forum to reply to and report back about sellers who receive complaints. If the complaint is unwarranted then lets see why. But just ignoring the complaints is not solving the problem. The above would help restore user confidence which is at an all time low.

So there it is alibaba. A few simple steps on how to help users so please take the initiative and do something about this.

Anyone else have some suggestions for alibaba here?

[em16][em16] Good suggestion to Alibaba, I'm also confused why Alibaba Service Team did not take any effective measures on stopping scammers online. Why? Strange enough.

A Busines Investigation Team is also necessary for solving some cases online and offline in China.

I think that there is a few things at play here.

Alibaba is a big company and big companies are generally not very dynamic and take far too long to get things changed. Sometimes big companies get arrogant too and assume that they are too big to be affected by problems. I think a bit of both is at play here.

I believe that the staff on the front line at alibaba such as Admin here at the forums are fully aware of the problems but they are not in a position to act.

My advice would be for them to put accept help that is offered in helping to resolve this issue before it is too late or they may find themselves out of work for lack of action by their managers.

I think the Alibaba attitudes is based on Sales of Good Act that says 'let buyer be aware', in that  when they sent in the details of inquiry they provide member with warning as regards to the inquiry.  I make sure I look closely on the details (wording) of the inquiry and make an informed decision as to authenticity of the buyer. Besides, I always make research of my own on the internet regarding the name of the company if the company is a scam the result will come back with negative result –site unknown not safe and also I check the company profile from Alibaba as per the information sent whether the member is a free member gold

member or Trustp *, if this is blank or with scanty details one can draw a conclusion about the company. In most cases, I delete and block the

contact.

Well, no offense, but don't you think that is a bit naive to think you can judge a company just by its profile? I also know that some of the time doing research on the internet doesn't always pull up anything. Sometimes, you're the first person to get scammed.

It takes a lot of experience to just be able to  pull a scammer out of the bunch like that, because we have to give them credit, some of them are very good at what they do. I was reading another article on this topic that said the ones that don't scam people send over products that are toy-like in nature, cheap, and very easily broken. Not a scam, but not what you were hoping for either.

I take the standpoint that Alibaba (as any "respectable" company should, and would do), should start taking steps to insure scammers aren't being given such an easy road to go down. You had mentioned something about the trust p *, and the gold member seals. If you do a search on the internet, you'll find that these people are scamming people also. There's sort of a no holds bar  thing going on here at Alibaba.

Alibaba isn't the only site out there like this, and I'd be willing to bet that the first site to start taking meassures against scammers would be the site that becomes the biggest in the end. You just can't hide from progress, and a good idea.

Too true. I thought I could trust a  company (supposed company) that I made contact with through Alibaba. They even had the cheek themselves and warned me about scammers from Indonesia saying they were ripped off themselves. After quite a few email exchanges of telling me what to look out for and who I should and shouldn't trust, they gained my confidence and I went ahead with a deal that hey said I should keep fairly low and pay through paypal to keep safe. Paypal doesn't protect you from scammers. Only really protects you from the seller seeing your bank detils etc. But in the end I lost around $1000 for some goods I never receieved. After I paid the contact kept saying the goods should be on their way. In the end they stopped replying to my follow up emails... I am dissapointed with Alibaba and will not buy from any business off there unless more measures can be taken. You should be able to blacklist the people on there or some other forum to warn others. But then I gues sthey'll just oen up a new email as that's the only contact details they seem to have. So in future I'd make sure I get their telephone number and ring them and check physical address on the web etc.

The solution to protecting your own money is to do your own research BEFORE you send money to any seller. Blacklisting scammers does little to protect others as it is too little, too late.

If you do not send money to scammers in the first place then they wont get your money.

The easiest ways to avoid scammers include:

a. do not try to buy foreign brand name products cheaply as the brand name companies own those products not factories so no seller can sell these items to you except for the brand name company and their representatives;

b. invest in paying an agent to represent you by visiting the supplier and checking the quality of production BEFORE you release payment

If you follow those two simple rules then you will avoid scammers. It does not mean that you will not find problems, but it does mean that you wont lose money to scammer for nothing.

I payed out 1000.00 us dollars to aaalg trade co ltd and I got nothing out of it. But I just got smarter I just them right out if they are a scammer and tell them if they should go right straight to jail and that scares them off line and they don't talk to you any more. [em6]
