I'm looking to start a business importing bicycles from China to the US. I understand that there are a lot of things I must do to do this such as finding a manufacturer, getting a broker, customs, etc. I really don't know where to start or who to trust. Any information would be great!

Just as you see upstairs.there will be many Chinese suppliers contact you. You can find them on B2B website just like alibaba.com.

The most important thing is how to esteblish your business net in the US.You can put your work to this point at first. While you establish it. It will be much easier.

Its Very to find a good supplier through Internet. And Locating a supplier in China is even more difficult. You have to be very careful.

You can browse alibaba and mark some manufacturers first. I think going through each ones company profile etc. you may come to know the difference between the manufacturer and traders.

Ask them to their company certificates, ISO certificates etc., their present customer base/ customer references etc.

Check compare the prices/ specification that each one has to offer.

Also if you plan to do a long term buisness, its only going to be worthwhile to take a trip yourself and visit the factories etc.

Also for payment terms, insist upon LC without any downpayment, since they will be bound to deliver in time through LC then. A reputed manufactuerer will always agree to accept LC for the 100% order value.

For shipping, you can either ask the supplier to quote you CIF prices, or you may contact the shipping agents in your country to arrange the shipping from either the suppliers factory or a ny agreed port in China.

You may first compare the shipping charges before finalinzing the CIF or FOB Terms.

I hopt this will help.

First you have to find customer or customers.Because products useless with out customers.After than leearn what your customers need.Than you can start to search for find manufacturer.And finally you can work with your customer and manufacturer.

My UK buyer also want me to help with sourcing folding bikes.

After do some research on line and talked with the bike manufactory, I found the fact is the Europe associate set up the rules to against import bikes from China 80% of the bikes made in China can't meet the import standard and many exporters can't export bikes directly to Europe markets. They have to transit in Malaysia or somewhere, which increase the importers' cost.

I don't know this is correct or not. This is only for your information.

Maybe you can ask the experts or the professional bike exporters here.

If I am wrong with the above statement, pls let me know. I may be happy to contact my buyer for this business.

I do not believe the importing of bikes from china is banned. I do believe though, thet they must come from an ISO acredited factory in order to pass the UK safety standards test.
