Our lab will buy two motors from China. But the manufacturer is reluctant to arrange the shipment to US.
Our lab is located on campus of one state university in TX, US. I want to find a trade agency to buy these electrical motor for our lab. Does anybody know how to find a realiable agency? The total value of these motors may be 2,000 USD. The weight might be near 250Kg.

There are two problems here in this business.
1) The good should be shipped to our campus.
2) The manufacuturer insisted that we should pay them first. Othwise , they will not produce it.
The did not accept Offical Purchase Order issued by the University. That means we should pay the manufacuturer first, then find a freight agency and pay them for the shippment. That risk us a lot. The university will only pay all the expense to one company . We will not pay for good and shippment separately. We need a agency who can buy the motor, ship it to our campus in us. Of cousre, we will pay the agent fee and all the expense for the good.

Yes, I do agree some people suggest to buy from trading company for start, but, considering the later orders, maybe it would be much bigger. You now just start in small quantity, I think it is better to looking for a dirrect manfacturer this time, as the small quantity can test the suppliers' quality, when next time big order, you can place order to the supplier which you found they are good.
I have already found the direct manufacturer, but this company is reluctant to arrange the shipment. Beside, the company did not accept our offical purchase order(PO) issued by my university and insisted that we should pay for the goods first. However, my university will not pay for the goods until it is shipped to our lab.

1st: investigate if the company is reliable. Check there emailadresses. If it is hotmail, then be very careful.
2. check there registration at the Chamber of Commerce.
3. maybe DHgate.com and/or Escrow.com can help assist you also.
4. Western Union or wire transfer is doubtful and no guarantee.
5. if it is at least a trustworthy company, then payments normally should be made on company-name and NOT on private name. (that is quit common on the Chinese market, but please be careful)
6. normally you shouldn't have an 'agent' , but you could contact common dropshippers, like ups, dhl, fedex, etc. If they cannot help you in this case, because of cargosize, surely they can give you an alternative contact.

p.s. if the company is transparent and they feel your order important themselves, they can send you some proof of registration at the Chamber of Commerce, but... always check those papers yourself ! If a company is not so willing, because you 'ask' too much, be alert !!!!

This is some difference between China and US. Both the Manufacturer and the University Insisted on their aspects. I can't do anything to change either side as a graduate student in the lab. The price for agent and shippment totaly might be two times the expense of the good. i'm giving up now.
