Hi,

Our company main products are office furniture and i realize that India can be a very potential market since the demand on office partition is high. But the problem now is that i have talk with a few India buyer this 2 months, proceed to send them proforma invoice and confirm about the delivery time and other details..but in the end, the run off...i have yet successfully to do business with one India buyer..can anyone enlighten me here? how do deal with India buyers? anyone have experiences? anyone know what do the India buyer likes and dislikes?

And also the UK buyers...most of them usually ask us a few questions regarding delivery time and payment and they are gone [em8] since they are gone and i follow up with email and they never reply, so i really don't know what's the problem there and how can i improve?

  • I kind of got the same problems with you.

Our product is ladies underwear. One Indian customer send me three pieces bra and wanted us to make products for him.

He gave me a target price, but the price is low, but I accept for further business.

Though he insisted in our making products for him, he has no size specification, there's no way for us to make products without size specification. Size requirement varied from different countries. He even don't know which sizes shoud be made. We can made 30AA-42F, there are too many size, we can not make so many size in  such a low quanitity. (5000 pcs for four color, 2 styles=625pcs/color/style)

Then many problem approach and we can not settle it. At last, he asked me to send the samples to another agent, he said he would change agent. It is okay to me, at least that means the end of my headache.

  • hi.  It is a hot question.

I get the same experiences. Here I want to talk something about China and India. I think there are many reasons.

Firstly, Both China and India are developing countries.  Both have a great population. Both are developing fastly these years. So we are similar in Economic structure but we share the same bread in the world.  The national CPIs are near as well, although China has a little higher CPI I think. Cost of most traditional products are in the higher side than those made in India so far.

  • Hi, I am continuing. hehe

Secondly, Office Furniture belong to traditional, low tech. goods. We dont have many advantages for oversea business, especially for business with developing contries or poor regions.  You can imagine, how much will it take if they make same products by themselves. And how much can they get yours after pay local import tax and value added tax.

Besides, China and India confront many difficulties in other areas as well. We cannt cooperate in many Areas.

  • Here I want to share something. thank you.

China and India are serious rivals rather than good business-partners. We are cricial competitors in military affairs as well.

Let's see the future. I take pride of China who has already played very well. Come on!

    Hi,
I can understand your situation. I myself face this inside India. Being an Indian, I would suggest you to reply to enquiry and ask them when would they like to get back on this?

You can send a follow up mail after few days or a week and another again after 10-15 days if they have not responded, and just leave it. May be after month or so, you can try again to see if they would like to place an order. That's it. No more follow ups if they don't reply.

Incase they reply and mention any time frame, regularly follow it up and wait.

I would suggest you to send mail and then talk if they show interest. A genuine buyer would always revert back.

The same principle can be applied to buyers from other region.

Hope this was helpful. All the best!

Replaying to [AllahJohn]: I somehow understand what you mean. But i just don't really get it because our product are not really expensive plus the prices can be quite low too for some model. If they are not satisfied with the prices i told them in my first email, or not interested with the products, then why do they still ask me to quote them with further discount and send them PI? If they are interested and asked for quotation, even if they don't like the prices in the PI they should ask me for further possible discount isn't it? But they just gone [em9] this is not first time already..actually i didn't manage to get even 1 customer from india since all this time. All my customers are from middle east and they are much easier to deal with...

For example the bra cases in the above post...the prices already low, quantity also low...but supplier still trying to satisfied them and buyer still don't like it...even my boss also having a very hard time dealing with india buyers although he had been in this field for many years already. Sometime he rather give up contacting buyer when he knew the buyer are from india [em4] cuz he felt it's wasting time...
