An Italian woman taken to the hospital for heart troubles told her surprised doctors that her jealous husband had kept her prisoner in their home for 50 years.

Doctors at a Trento hospital in northern Italy alerted police about the woman who said her husband had locked her insider her house whenever he went out since they were married in 1958. She only was allowed to leave the home when he was with her and could not talk to anyone on the outside.

The woman, now in her 70s, was not identified, but a Val di Non police spokesman said it appeared she was not allowed to even see her two grown children, who were not permitted to visit by their father.

TV watching also was forbidden and at times she was beaten, according to police.

Trento prosecutors requested an order for the man to be removed from his home and taken to a secure accommodation until an investigation could be completed.
