The customer required PI
Post 1 of 23
I have two customers . they told me they would place the order and asked me to  send the PI. then I have not a single word from them now for a long time. I sent email to them and no reply. Are they serious buyers? why do they want the PI?

It is the price list .PI is the price list .

why  the PI   is  not  the proforma  invoice,  and the PL is the price list.

PI means profoma invoice is same as invoice but not the real one. If you send the customer PI then they will confirm the order.

1.) they told me they would place the order and asked me to  send the PI.

Did you send the PI as requested? PI is understood as proforma invoice. It does not mean "Price List" as someone has already pointed out. In fairness to you, this should have been written out, rather than abbreviated.

2.) Then I have not a single word from them now for a long time.
If you couldn't manage to send an invoice - or worse - just sent a general price list in reply to the request, your erstwhile potential customer may not want to waste any more time on you.

    3.) Are they serious buyers?
They might or not be, but probably are such - just not from you. If they were once serious, an inability of the seller to furnish the very minimal documentation requested would certainly cause the buyer to wonder if you are a legitimate supplier. Alibaba Gold Supplier means very little - except perhaps that if you are a scammer, you're in the professional league, and if you can't deliver a proper invoice, odds are you can't deliver the merchandise in question either.

4.) Why do they want the PI?
These are used for many things, from preliminary customs clearance queries to precise merchandise detail to accurately estimating the total cost of import. The list goes on and the buyer's particular requirement for the PI is unknown, but not unreasonable. If the orders in question are relatively large, the buyer would quite naturally want an estimate of cost and a detail of product.

I would think the better question would be why you can't provide one.

I have send out more then that of you...hahaha...probably 10+ of my clients never reply after i sent them a P.I. So i usually will follow up with email asking them about their decision or whether not they receive the P.I. Most of the time they will tell me the prices of products from my company is too high, higher then those from China if they are going to compare. [em10] So, to me, a P.I is a list of total item price for my client to compare [em12] They like it, they proceed. They don't like it, they ignore.

PI is Proforma Invoice. if you have to chat with you customer for longtimes and let them know the information they need. When they ask you to send them PI, usually it means 70% success of the order.

About the format for the PI, you can reference them on internet.

    Hope this can help you.[em1]

    Cool!

When a client asks PI that mean they are willing to finalize an order and terms of payment.

  • I think you's better to call them to confirm about the order.

Sometimes  they ask for PI doesn't mean the order will come.

Somebody has explained quite well the nature of the PI. I should like to add only that the Proforma Invoice should not differ from the Commercial invoice (except its header that includes Proforma Invoice) because the buyer needs the PI as a proof of the banking transaction, especially if he paid in advance (since he would receive the original Commercial Invoice only later, from whence it will replace the PI in the accounting).

In many countries it is very important for taxing and accounting reasons. In Europe you have to be able to put a proof behind any bank transfers, otherwise you can have serious problems with regulations against financing terrorism or against money-laundering.

So if your European client asks for a PI you'd better send him one.
