first, I would say something between salesman and businessman. 

if you can be called a businessman, it means you have your own career, maybe you have your own company. but generally, we just can be called salesman, even though you have a lot of customers. 

 then what can we do to put us into the stand of being a businessman? 

you should be a good salesman first. then you have your own long-standing customers.they just wanna to make deals with you.then you have already been a businessman.
