I always keep in mind my managers advice that to do business is just like to be a human. when I graduated from university and came to one state- owned enterprise. My manager gave me his first lesson that to do business is just like to be a human. I was fingering out and considering what its really meaning was all the time, even till now. I am realizing that if you know how to be a human, there is nothing difficult to do business as time goes by, that is to say, you should know how to communicate, how to learn, how to face and handle the problems etc. So I like to take this opportunity to share this sentence with you, and I will share some my experience in foreign trade and life principle with you, thanks for your attention.

When we graduate from university, most of us will find a job relevant to international business trade, I mean those guy who major in International business trade or English, as you know, some company like to hire the guy who has work experience, but how can the new graduate have work experience, maybe most of us did not have it, so you shouldshow your confidence and your honest but with skillful communication to the employer. To be confidence, you can give good impression that you can hold this vacant position, to be honest is a basic morality, you can get more trust from the employer, but your honest is better based on good skillful communication, it more works in this way. In addition, you should prepare for your major knowledge and interview skills, what is more, you should search and find a opportunity to get a interview through internet, newspaper and other effective channel, but pls call them directly and ask : May I have a chance to get a interview ?. When I was graduating from university, I was afraid of calling them to get the chance cause of more afraid of being refused, I just encourage myself several times: Just be brave, come on, you are a man! So I got some opportunities to have the interview, however, I got more frustration and depression, I was becoming suspect that what I have learnt from university. I graduated with a Bachelor??s Degree majoring International business trade, and have passed band 6, participated in ESEC program, to be honest, I show great confidence in myself, but when you came to the society, you have to face more competition and more than what you have gone through in the university. I met countless of frustration and troubles in the half year of my graduation; I did not scare and draw back, and stand up to those frustration and troubles, I was becoming more and more mature, patient , confidence when I overcome those troubles. When you get the job related to foreign trade, how do you plan your foreign trade career? To be frank, I did not consider this question when I was beginning to engage in the foreign trade. It is better choose the foreign trade industry which you are interested in, you know, you will devote most of your life to the foreign trade career, so just do what you like and interested in.

Firstly, when you choose the suitable industry and company, almost all the foreign trade procedure is the same, they are just different in the products, you should get to know and master the products your company specializing in. As far as we are concerned that to be professional is most important to communicate with customer. Secondly, you should be familiar with the basic foreign trade procedure, maybe you can make use of one foreign trade book, and learn the basic knowledge, you can take advantage of the Foreign trade Forum, you can check Import and Document parts, just check what is the question, and how to answer the question, if you can persist in learning for half a year, I promise you that you can benefit from it and make a great progress. Thirdly, to be a foreign sales is a better choice specializing in foreign trade, if you are interested in foreign sales, pls check next paragraph how to be a good foreign sales. To be a good foreign sale, we have a long way to follow. First of all, you should prepare for what have mentioned above: (a) To be professional in products (b) Familiar with foreign trade procedure (c) Own basic English knowledge (d) To do business is just like to be a human.

Here are my some advices on how to be a good foreign sale, just for your reference.

(1) You should well know the 4P and 4C for the Marketing, 4p is short for product, price, place, and promotion, 4C is short for Consumer, Cost, Convenience, and Communication. Regarding 4Pand4C, I advise you to know about and consider what do they really refer to, maybe we can discuss them together later.

(2)You should well know you're the situation of your company combined with SWOT analysis, what is your company's strength, weakness, opportunity, and threaten compared with your competitors, how can your company compete with your competitors.

(4)To get the trust from the customer is key point to get the order, when we receive order, most of us seldom report to the customer what is the situation of the mass production except was asked by client, I just focus on one factor to emphasize on getting the trust from the customer, you should give what they want to know and need.

(5) The magic weapon in the international foreign trade is the persistence , as you know, to do business is a long term war, so you should persist all the time, pls never draw back and give up, Keep at it, and you will succeed! Pls always persist in sending your updated new item to your costumers, you will have orders.

From a student standpoint, everything is just in text books, quotations, and metioning about the Marketing Mix 4 Ps and 4Cs. Also applying the SWOT analysis, much of these are in theory.


The most challanging part is how to translate them into practice, apply the knowledge into the running of a business, the daily affairs of our life. That is why your boss says you have to be a human. The Chinese word for a man is easy to write, only two strokes, but as the idiom goes, it is easier to write man than to be a man.


On this note, we have to learn how to relate to other human beings, and earn their trust and respects. We have to be a part of the Business of life. To do that ask yourself the question:


Why should the customer buy from me?

What makes me so special from others?

Am I relevant to the supply chain?

What are the needs of the customers, and what are their wants?

How can I meet to their needs, or change their wants into needs?

What are my social responsibility to the customer?


Every business is out to make money, that is a fact, unless it is a non-profit social organisation for the community welfare. But along with the need to make money is also the social responsibility. E.g. we cannot neglect food safety and health of our customers in our meeting their needs.
