Newdog,For the US there are no customs taxes.. there are cutoms duties. The importer is the one who has to pay them. The rate depends on the product as listed in the Harmonised Codes at the US Customs website (customs.gov).
If you are new to the whole thing you should get a customs clearing agent in your area and have a conversation about all the rules and regs etc. It is fairly complicated and rookies trying to do it themselves the first time out of the gate is a one way trip to lots of problems.

New,A PERSONAL gift to you is different..... But if you are talking more than 5 units then Customs is not going to believe it and all that will happen is:
1> They might seize the shipment
2> They might levy the duty on you anyway
3> They will DEFINATELY put your name in their little black book of people to do full searches on in the future (which has all sorts of consequences... none of which you want happening)
Trust me, it ain't worth trying to "sneak" things in. They WILL find you and they WILL make you pay for it one way or another.
Just do it totally above board and factor those costs into your equations. It really is the best way in the long run.
