First off, what's your definition of being married? In my opinion it's the voluntary and honest decision of a man and a woman to become "one" (a couple) with the purpose of starting a family.

"But where do the priest and civil registry come into play", you might ask. Well, they like to be "important" and taken seriously, but in reality they have nothing to do with this decision. It's just a matter between these two.

So if your opinion is that the traditional pompous marriage with all those "necessary" ingredients will practically disappear, it might well happen.

Right now there are two currents. Some people don't take matters seriously at all and look at sex as a game. Therefore they won't marry. But there are also people who take it seriously, and just are aware that priests and civil registry have nothing to do with the fact of getting "married". They marry in their heart, and that's enough for them. So for these two reasons marriage as we know it might disappear.

Morally it is evil, and socially it is like having sex without the responsibility.


God made man and woman to mate, like the animals and insects, the birds and the bees, but people are the ones that perverse the entire plan of nature. Why live together? Don't tell me that both of you are good friends only, not having sex?


At the end of the day, who can you say your house-mate is? Your husband? Maybe you do not want to have children, that is fine, but why living together? The Chinese says: "When you put two cups in a pail of water, floating, they tend to knock each other." So, living together, like what the Western countries are doing, in Great Britain for example there are more and more single mothers. But their social fabric is different from the Asian culture, their Governments give them money, and more money if they are single parent. If they are married, there is a man to take care of them, the Welfare pay will be less. But there is no such welfarism in China or even here, so why be the loser?


In all cases, the woman is always the loser. If by accident, she gets pregnant, she has to bear the child for 9 months, become a social stigma, talk-of-the-town, and a disgrace to her parents and relatives. She does not get any help from anyone outside, and cannot work, due to her pregnancy. What can she do if the man just takes off after finding out she is bearing his child? The guy had his fun, and the girl also had her's but who got the bug?


Marriage is not a matter of convenience, or any how relationship, it is a life time committment to each other. I will not allow my daughter to live with another man, no matter what he is, a gentleman or a doctor, or lawyer. If they want, they must get married.

Frankly, I respect the choices of whom live together without getting marriage, but I won't do it myself.

Germex , I have to agree with you. Its not the  Cake, wedding Dress, Banquet  what you call as necessary ingredients is needed but  True committment  to your partner and taking the vow before God.

It's OK if you're a man, it's not suggested to do if you're a woman. You will regret after living with your opposite sex partner without marriage. Anyway it's up to you but you have to learn how to protect yourself...China is still a trational country.

I totally oppose about that opinion.so many women don't know the danger of living together  many years without marrying.every thing can be changed as time goes by.even if your husband loves your very much now,but  no one can ensure he will love as much as now .if you didn't get married,he can leave u quickly without any worry.so a woman had better get married if you love that man and bear a baby.baby can relieve the problem  between you and your husband when problem happened.

If  I a girl, I must think further , because your boyfriend when he is into the forty or even later part in life or boring with you ( sorry )  can easily find a new young girl for him. but you may have difficulties finding a mate.
