Doing Business With Company in China
Post 1 of 25

Hi,

I need help and advice from anyone who is familar with doing business with companies outside of the US.  I have Bath & Body products listed on Alibaba.  Approximately 2 months ago, a company from Xi'an, China contacted me via email wanting to purchase my product.  I called the gentleman who emailed me; however, due to the language barrier...he could not understand me and I could not understand him.  Therefore, we have been communicating via email for two months.

We have agreed on a price and the company has emailed a contract for me to sign.  Because I am not experienced with doing business with a foreign country...I did not want to sign the contract right away.  The contract indicates that this company will pay 50% of the total goods upon signing the contract and the remaining 50% will be paid by L/C ( letter of credit) before shipment date.

It appears that the company really wants to do business with me because they have been emailing me wanting to know the status of the contract.  They have even extended an invitation for me to visit their company in Xi'an, China so that we can personally sign the contract.

If anyone can assist me with this or point me in the right direction.......I will greatly appreciate it.  I think the company in China has been very patient with me and I feel I need to let them know if I am ready to proceed.  I can email a copy of the contract and the info for the contact person in China...if that info is needed by whomever is willing to assist me.

Thank you,

dear sir,

I had same business trip to one chinesse company named "Hairun electronic" ltd. in Zheng Zhou, we receive one inquiry for our products (oil contaiers), we give them price normaly first price is high, and we receive answer that we need to cut this price for some 3%, of course we agreed on that and reply the with new price 3% lower, they accept that price we make a cotract and they call us that we need to go to their company in order to sign that contract (value of contact was 400000 euro), we reseved tickets and we travel to that city , we met them contract was signed they ask from us to buy some gifts(such cigaretes), we buy form the gift in value of 500 euro, after that we returned home in serbia. It past over 5 months and we can not contact them, we try many ways throught chinese embassy in belgrade but they also can not be in touch with them.

If you want my opinion you have to call them and say : if you want to buy thing from outside of china please visit us(in these case you in USA) to sign cotract and we will sell you.

in this trip we spend allmost 5000 euro, it is not to much for our company but we are not dealing with serius peoples, i don't know do they have any interest from this trip but for us was a real problem while you travel 10000 kilometres for business and you find what? chinesse "smart head".

try other market china is not good.

Hello.

I work as an account manager for a worldwide credit information provider called Graydon International. At Graydon we produce commercial credit information for companies from around the world. We are owned by three of the world’s largest credit insurers namely Atradius of the UK and Netherlands, Coface of France and Euler Hermes of Germany. These three players - the Coface Group, Euler/Hermes Group and Atradius - account for roughly three-quarters of the world market. With its network of branch offices, Eurogate partnerships and alliances, Graydon services its clients from more than 130 offices world-wide.

We normally recommend and encourage our clients (and others) to obtain inform credit reports on companies on which they intend to do business, especially on companies located in the far-east as there is a substantial amount of fraudulent activity in the area of the world.

With genuine companies, they are usually happy to pay in advance. There have been many instances of companies offering letters of credit but these are not worth the paper they are printed on.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards

There are really many such kind of scammers in China now.

You can not be too careful with this business.

Frankly i do not know whether if this company trustful or nor.

But i suggest you do not come to China before you recieve some deposit.

ATTENTION: Contract means nothing for scammers.

My answer is: Run away as quickly as you can when you meet such buyers from China.

They are typical scammers and they will rip you off when you're in China, having a face-to-face discussion with them. Do not forget to look into them before departure to China at any time.

My dear

It is not safe to do that, You must deal with L/C at least 3-5 times by L/C to know if the company deal with you  are good company or not , and I prefere to visit them and see the factory who will produce your products and to see if they have quality control or not , If they have not quality control room don,t deal with them.

Kind regards

Mounir

Be carefull... it is most likely a scam... I fell into such a scam 2 months ago... i was contacted by a company named: "Guanxi BoYing Internationl Co. Ltd.", they passed me a purchase order as part of a contract worth US $230,000 , this was after they got my samples...

The payment terms were the same like yours and in order to get the T/T done, i have had to visit their office and sign face to face... i visited Guilin for two days on the 23rd and 24th of July.

Buttom line is that in the "decisive" meeting i was asked to buy a painting to the financial manager because he is the one who decides on payments... the gift was a paiting worth at least 10,000 RMB (about US $1,500 those days)- as i was told... I refused... and this how it ended... they did spend some money on me... invited me to a fabulous ballet show and they designated a driver with a good car and a girl from the company to go and see the city - Guilin, which is very nice... i spend some money on the girl and driver buying the meals and some entrence to tourism sights... not too much - about $300 in total...

The total financial damage was roughly $3,500 on Air ticket, hotels, food etc.

Anyway, i say it is a scam and nothing good will come out of it... but, if you still want to check it out then my suggestion is for you to set the following terms with them:

estimate the amount you are going to spend on Air ticket, Hotel, food etc. Tell them that your condition is that they transfer you this sum of money that will be as part of the 50%  they need to transfer when contract is signed, like an advance... and use this money to visit them... i thouht about doing that myself but decided not to as i was affraid i would look unprofessional... anyway, i strongly suggest that you do it this way...

Anyway, if you want to hear more about my story - contact me here in alibaba.

Good Luck!

Hi,

(Barry from UK)

We used to deal with soft toy manufacturers in Indonesia, Vietnam, China etc. However our experience was from purchasing and not selling. We made the effort to attend trade fairs <and meet the company representatives in Hong Kong, China, Thailand etc and they always took us to their manufacturing areas so that we could see how they worked and obtained their certificates of safety etc. I have travelled extensively in the far east and found our contacts to be very helpful and deliveries were made on time with payments made by LC. However I can only speak as a travelling buyer. Since then we have closed the toy operation and are now working on a new project with a safety travel acessory and once again the factories are in touch offering their support (however it is THEY who are looking to sell to us). My advice would be meet the factory but ensure that you have a lawyer or manufacturers agent to inspect the operation and contract BEFORE you sign. My thought is that if a Chinese company is looking to BUY from you... just ask WHY when they most likely have access to everything they need in China. Remember China has vast resources and they may just be looking to copy your product.

Sorry if that sounds negative but it is YOUR operation that needs to be protected, not theirs.

If I can help any further please e mail me Barry Everett in the UK

barry_aps@hotmail.com  Please note that there is an underscore between barry and aps in the e mail address, I think the blue underline makes it difficult to see.
