My items that I want to order are very small. I asked for a qoute on a sample, the item costs USD 10.00 and the shipping was USD 50.00 the DHL door to door courier. Thats too much in my opinion

Now i am new and i want to get into a product market, but I need help navigating the shipping so it does not eat into my profits.

The items that I will be requiring will not be heavy and will be less than 1kg each.

What is a resonable price I can expect from a courier service from China to the US (new york)

. Those are the rates. and small items like that are even more expensive to ship . Unless you are buyingh in at least 10 kilo weights you are wasting any time or savings buying from long distance.dhl rates are around 35.00 first 1/2 kilo and then like 6 dollars for every half kilo after wards up to 60 or so kilo then it goes down .

if the goods are small and not heavy.you can asking your supplier to checking with EMS.as EMS are charge the price at the weight .not the carton size. maybe you can get the cheaper price on the air-freight. of course, the delivery time are a little longer 2-3days than DHL.

I recommend checking with other companies to compare prices and shipping.  Most people I've  dealt with quote price and shipping together. Make sure you check out your companies. You also might consider doing a sample order larger than one- with most dealers only excepting WU you end up getting charged an extra $30. Good Luck and Happy Buying:)

    Hello!

No problem out there... If you want to see the samples,.. Then you must pay for the Sample freight charges... As its neccassary for you to see the Sample before ordering for large volumes.

And 30$ does'nt matter in long run... And also this is the one time cost.

Also possibiltiy is there, that, might you not like the items when you see the sample... You will saving yourself from big loss to pay only 50$ extra... And sometimes... good suppliers return your money back by adjusting the sample freight in your order amount...

So if your supplier is good... You don't need to worry about anything.

Hope the answer is for your question.

    Good Luck[em13]

the quote was not unreasonable   there was not much added to pay for the inconvienience of shipping samples .

ask if they can Use EMS it may be a bit lower

but it is much cheeper to   order samples and be sure the product will fill your needs . better than tpo order a pallet and find out the goods are sub par,

I cut the shipping costs per sample by ordering many samples from the company at the same time   ( often the comanies I am looking at have many Items I want to consider carying  )

if the shipping seems high I check the EMS web site  .  I did have one supplier I did not go with because they wanted to charge me  shipping of 260.00 USD  to ship 3 kg EMS  which should have been around 60.00 .  so I found a different company !

      good luck    Sue

The Official price of Couriers services are all very Expensive. For example.

    *** UPS rates

Please visit the following website: http://www.ups.com/content/cn/en/shipping/cost/download.html
    For Fuel Surcharge
    http://www.ups.com/content/cn/en/resources/find/cost/fuel_surcharge.html

They would charge you for Rates * Fuel Surcharge.

But normally if your supplier have a account with those major couriers or they are requiring Freight Forwarder to do the service then you can have some discounts.

Shipping Rates for 1kg to USA for your Reference

DHL should not more than 35 USD.

UPS should not more than 40 USD

EMS should not more than 30 USD.

    Dear Kamboje

Using the transportation costs of your mail company, the daily fee to get someone in the US to repackage your stuff, the the expected revenue for your business you can easily calculate the optimum number/postal package.

Just find some chinese guy in US to repackage your products in the US.

These are some common problems for bigginers.

One thing can be done,  Just ask that exporter whether they have exported similar products to your country earlier. It they have exported similar product to your country earlier then get the address of that party (of your country ) from them and purchase a product from that party for evaluations.

If you are satisfied with that samples piece(which your purchased from your local place, supplied by that exporter), you can sign with your company seal over that sample and send that samples to the inspections agency for audit purposes.

Another thing, that you can do is buy the samples piece by paying the required courier charges, and if you able to provide the final order to that exporter then ask them to deduct the sample courier cost. I think the exporter will absorb the couriers charge, born by you, if you able to provide the final order to them.

This is my personal idea and view, may not work for everyone.

    Good Luck !!!!

I am in the same situation. I am located in US and have small packages of around 1kg that need to be shipped from China. My supplier said he can ship it for me by DHL and the cost is $59. I think it is expensive. But when i asked Fedex, UPS, they quoted even higher ($80 or $90).

Sue, what shipping company did you find. Can you share with us? I would really appreciate.
