Mark & Spencer imports wood-furniture, Is not Eco-friendly ?
Post 1 of 14
A  hot question to answer by UK community !  refer to ecologic issue..

Mark &Spencer recently had operated in Java via their Trading agent .

Buying a BIG quantity of wooden Furniture from Java island , Indonesia.

last year ... it may be (assuming) more than 3 million Pounds of placing Order

even nearly 5 Millions £ if it been delivered as the target.

How did M&S got the sources and how were Hundreds containers of wood

been brought to Britain from Develop countries that still "Un-controlled and Un-orgonized"

Whilst , on the others hands The World, EU- C ( and UK) are very concern about the issue of

Global - Warm/Heat upon Forest (Green) destruction by Tropical countries 'Lung of Earth"?

Thus, UK's society must know the "truth situation" of  it.

Very Ironic ... Concerning / complaining about  Global Heat but Buying a hundreds

containers of Wood Furniture from Tropical country (=also Indonesia) ?

People of Britain : need to know precisely

Is the wood that M&S bought are coming from Sustainable (Plantation) or wild-cut ?

- The M&S supplier had followed / full filled the all M&S requirements (as requested) or Not ?

- Did the Supplier of M&S had A Community Social Responsibility or not ?

such this CSR or Community Development had been consistently be implemented or just

a bunch of papers forms that just been signed ?

- Did M & S had been periodically really inspect and check about the implementing of

all those "Properly Way" of CSR practicing or just "Porto Folio" or Formality Mask ?

- Did M & S had carefully select and screening their Supplier that really Accountable and

Credible and Accountable suppliers or Just picking Up another One of the link of Chains for

Irresponsible coy upon CSR or Com-Dev ? that only hunting and making Big Money in their

Pocket. Also not care about the Ecolog , Labor/worker welfare, etc

If M&S can not show the brief and firm evidence of all above Issues , then what ?

You ,  the English Peoples are indirectly taking part and share in the Improper Act of :

- Ecology (Green) destruction !

- Environment destructive ! Non CSR and Com dev ?

- Improper done upon the human = labor, worker, women etc

- Indirectly help to growth Semi-illegal practice in developing country.

           - can you tell us which association that you joint with ?

           - In Mark & Spencer (UK) above topic, we are more concern not only for the wild cut,

but  the  Social Responsibility to Community  or  Community Development ...

Not  to say that  as a case of  Illegal lodging ..

If Indonesia Government can prevent Wild burning ... We will pray God and Allah... for no smoke Oct and Nov. A comment from your neighbouring country.

It used to be quite easy to get the Indonesia Navy to be involved in illegal logging and export activity... How it works in Indonesia, the Navy or the Army simply detain the logs from the illegal loggers, and then sell these logs at 50% discount to a cooperative Buyer.

I hope that this type of activity is discouraged, since trees are still being cut, and illegal loggers are still plentiful to risk it all.

         Thanks Francis,  of being concern

In a matter of fact in every "deal-trade" (legal or not legal)

there are 2 both parties in the transaction.

seller and buyer,  is it right ? dou you agree ?

So, as I said in this topic,  the buyer as the motivation of an action/act.

is the part of the roll.

M&S UK buyer had deal with  X company that some how it been generated and stong

motivation to supply it.  so it goes..

than the Britain  people buying it in very enthusiasm !  (good selling).

This,  actually had been the "support" and self motive to  M&S and suppliers to keep doing

the  act as a profit maker-  causal-prime ..(core of the motive).

As a nature of market, less demand is mean less supply.  NO demand No supply.

If you and UK's community of M&S customers can reduce the demanding, then the supply

         offering also can be redeem..

http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/player/news/environment-news/thailand-logging-apvin.html See that link... about illegal logging in Laos and  Vietnam...

Strictly speaking that is part of what a developing country will do... cause market forces,

    http://resources.alibaba.com/topic/345261/Money_for_Amazon_Rainforest_Protection_is_Misuse_for_chopping_of_more_trees.htm

Change the demand to other substainable wood sources, and regrow our trees... is the solution.

In Singapore. pple buy wood not becos it is cheap, but for the grain and texture... can we change this by creating man made timber.  while providing the texture.

    Francis :

the only reason developing country will do... cause market forces,

Change the demand to other sustainable wood sources, and regrow our trees... is the solution.

    well  Francis,

if You/  people for some reason can push they gov ( UK  for instance) to really care not only find a black sheep or complaining with no Irrational / senses against develop and under develop countries  that really under level...in many aspects.

    It suppose to do :

    1. Strict and tight regulation for import the wooden furniture/products from trees/forest etc

    2. Tax and Duty is  OK  also can be the filter to slow down the rating of demanding.

    3.  Get limit/quota, restriction and  nomination for (ONLY) few importers for it that really had

         passed and  fulfilled the rule/regulation.

buy these 2 control/filter, it must can redeem the hi-light of wild cut and Global Heat/Warm !

So.. those are the evidence of  care of earth/ green  from society.

Eco-friendly timber from sustainable plantation... is only possible if Indonesia government has the governing body to ensure that timber exports are FSC certified or equivalent.

I believe strong export regulations and policing is neccessary to ensure that to happen.

Instead of accusing Marks and Spencer of not being environmentally friendly.

Why dont we understand that they are not aware.

Many Buyers are ignorant about where they get their wood from, and even if it is certified as FSC. who knows... exactly what happens behind the back...

    Or

They simply want to maximize profit margin, and get wood from uncertified sources...

Being Green and environmentally friendly take a extra concisious  effort. and extra  money in verification.

End of the day, we are looking at how the consumer pressure the Importers to adhere to the consumer demand... Cos Consumer is the King... Demand for environmentally friendly and certified green product, will ensure that Marks and Spencer jump into the green bandwagon.

    Francis,

The more  frankly speaking is :

The Green ngo  and other country are not ethic to intervention  other country Autonomy

Better do to care, educate, vocal, in their own peoples, society and country to aware

and to establish the STRONG CONCERN  and the  REAL ACT  of  CARE & AWARE.

i/o  complaining and talking others country management/control/problem/weakness etc.

It did not help against Global Heat /Warm and  to Environ or Eco-friend  principal /target.

because  1 hand they are protesting and complaining, whilst  the Order/containers from them

are double/tripled  and more  and more time by time !?  what we could say for such this ?

    World - Community Social Responsibility  =  C S R

Safe our Earth  together and  with gathering  not  in

Save for yourself  but not safe for us.
