I think that the signature promotion feature at alibaba is a great idea.
Just about every business related forum has users that use the forum and like to promote their services on a forum. That is fair enough and easy to understand. The problem is that most forums do not give users a legitimate avenue to promote themselves and that leaves users trying all sorts of things to let other users find them.
At alibaba there is one centralized and easy way to promote your company here and get the benefit of being involved with this community - the signature promotion.
As to cost, well yes I agree that it is relatively expensive - 50 responses per week just to earn 100 points, but then if you get best answer points then that goes up. So the high cost encourages users to post useful information here in order to get the benefit of signature promotion.
So overall I think that it is a great idea. Now if we could only get rid of the standard signature lines here that would be a great improvement!!!
