What is the most effective way to find dropshippers?

If you are looking for dropshippers in China or another 'production' country in the hope that you can have them dropship per piece to your customers then you might want to re-think your strategy.

Manufacturers offer low prices based upon high quantities and in China most manufacturers do not hold stock. So every new order needs to be produced for each customer. As such they are not going to produce per piece and even if they did the price of the item would be much higher than what you may think.

Perhaps your best bet is to find a wholesaler, distributor, or dropshipper of your product back home. They would be purchasing in bulk, shipping the product and storing it, and as they maintain stock they will be able to ship per piece. Sure the price will be higher per unit, but so will your overall investment.

Actually I do not agree with egernia's oppinion about Chinese and other countries drop shipping goods.  Actually there are virtually thousands of drop shippers in SE Asisa as well as China.  The only thing you must consider is that your not buying name brand goods and that your going to pay more for each item than those that pay in bulk.  But many an on-line business has been established via drop shipping.

Rickyupholstery you mention alibaba for finding dropshippers....do you mean dropshippers in China?

I always think of alibaba as being a place to find manufacturers and trading companies and for making big purchases. That is the way that is has always been done, but I do realize that things can change.

Can you post a link to some legitimate suppliers here at alibaba that do dropshipping per piece on your behalf to your customers? By legitimate I mean suppliers that will actually send the products not those scammers that we see listing here more and more frequently.

I really agree with mstringer on this. Buying in Asia is for buying in quantities and getting manufacturers prices. If you want to find dropshippers you are far better off finding a supplier back home considering the following:

a. currency conversion means that the price your supplier sells for would change for every transaction whereas if you buy back home at the same currency there is no conversion;

b. payment methods and costs would be much higher and more difficult than using a common system as back home;

c. delivery times would be much longer;

d. delivery costs would be much higher;

e. supply would be less reliable as suppliers in Asia do have a nasty habit of making mistakes;

f. communication problems may result in the wrong product, size, or color being sent; or sent to wrong address;

g. and then the main problem being how could a supplier in Asia possibly make money from such an arrangement - and more importantly why would they want to even try assuming that they are already making money selling by the container load to other customers

So all in all I see the suggestion that it is common and that it works, but it would be good to see some examples of this specifically from China as I think this is where people such as the OP are looking for suppliers in the hope that they can buy at manufacturers prices without making an investment themselves. I am skeptical, but I am also open.
