Hi,

Can any one recommend the best country to deal with for dog leads, leash's and collars. I want to import into the UK.

Looking for advice from people already buying or using good sources:

Best Quality, Best Prices and of course most trustworthy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pet,

This gets a bit complicated. The best "base" prices you will get quoted will come out of Asia (most likely China).

Here are a few things you have to consider before you place an order or pay for anything.

1> MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity): Pricing is always going to be lower for a larger order.

2> Quality: You can't tell the quality properly unles you have an independant 3rd party go to the factory/supplier and physically inspect the product on your behalf. (The number of people who get good samples and then get crap actual deliveries once an order is placed is unbelievable)

3> BRAND NAME PRODUCTS: you CAN"T get these, unless you know the right people. Don't even try to work that out for yourself, you will get ripped off so fast it will make your head spin!

4> TRUE costs: You will get lower prices out of (example) China than you will from someone in Ireland. However that cost is probably not going to include a whole bunch of EXTRA costs that are involved.... Here's a quick rundown of those "extras" (as a very absic list)

Shipping/ Insurance/ Customs fees/ Customs brokerage fees/ handling fees at outbound port/ handling fees at inbound port/ on-shipping fees from the port to you.

And for the UK don;t forget VAT as well

That should give you a basic idea to start with. Hope it helps.

I agree with Foow. The manufacturing base for PET series is China, you can source a right supplier and exporter from Guangdong, Zhejiang and Jiangsu province etc in China. Take care!

Yep Zhejiang Province and Jiangsu Provinces are the place to look in my opinion. You will find a huge range in quality and price so you really need to spend some time checking samples and quality BEFORE comitting to one supplier.

I recommend that you request two identical samples of the products that you are interested in from your chosen supplier and have these sent to you.

Check the samples, sign both, create a technical file based upon the dimensions, materials etc used and then send one signed sample back to the factory as the quality reference. Also send the factory your technical document outlining the quality that you can and cannot accept.

Then have an inspection company check any shipment BEFORE you ship and release payment to ensure that production is the same as the signed quality sample held by the factory.

Problems that you will likely find will be poor stitch lines, uneven stitches, loose threads, discoloured leather, use of scrap leather as these are small items, uneven leather thickness, sometimes even genuine leather laminated onto recycled leather, studs that fall off, rings that come out, clasps that break too easily etc etc.

China is a great source of product but be mindful that you need to set the minimum quality level that you can accept very clearly upfront and not leave that up to the factory to decide.
