Hello.

I am trying to do business with Brazil. Do I need an export license to export electronics in the country? How about the payment, how do I receive money from customers in Brazil.

L/C is usually when you sell in high quantity. What will not be the case to start with. I know by my own experience that to start selling for businesses take longer than from individual.

My payment choices would be, paypal to start with, or wire transfer. But how much in taxes do I pay for Brazil to send the money here. Any help  ?

I understand you gonna do small business like.. For small business, Paypal is fine initially if you are doing in hundreds and thousands.. They don’t take Tax but they deduct some money as service charge.. After that you can use wire transfer also.. You may courier also if it is small..

You don't need to worry about anything related to Brazil.  The only thing you need to worry about is if the electronics you are selling to other countries are on the do not trade list.  If any item your selling is on the U.S. do not trade list you will have to get a U.S. license to export those items, as to do so without the license would be to violate the U.S. Patriot Act.

The Brazilian importer pays all import taxes.  As for costs to accept different forms of payment, that will be defined by the method of delivery.  If you accept PayPal from Brazil into the U.S. your looking at a minimum of a 3.9% charge for the transfer or $39.00 per $1000.00 if done via a T/T payment check with your bank for the charge to accept an international wire transfer.

The Brazilian importer has two tax systems:

1. RTS (Simplified Tax Regimen or "Regime de Tributação Simplificada" in Portuguese): values cannot exceeding U$50.00 (Postal or Courier) will not pay taxes. In this case the seller cannot be a company but an individual.

2. DSI (Declared Importation Simplified or "Declaração Simplificada de Importação" in Porguese): in this case the value cannot exceed Us$500.00 (Postal or Courier)

In both cases the maximum amount is US$3,000.00. Any value exceeding the above will have 60% of tax applied after the price and transportation fees combined.

For high quantities and import process needs to be in place and the tax will vary depending upon the product and volume.
