Dear Curdtice,

It is interesting and astonishing to have less participation and minimum replies in such a large-subject-forum. Pumice stone is used in different industries including textile industry.
In textile industry, it is used in washing the denim products to give the effect of worn and to get the products bleached and soft.

By the way we can mention mention the names of Turkey and Indonesia as two of the major pumice stone suppliers for the industry.

Dear Yarenimex,

Thanks for the useful information. Many people in the textile industry know the term stone washed denim but are not aware what type of the stone is required for this type of denim  denim washing.

Also denim suitable for stone washing is of better quality.

Dear Balu1234,

Besides stone washing, there is another material used in denim washing, that is enzym. As you stated, stone washed denim is of better quality and in more demand.

Yar,
Didn't know they used it for that in Textiles. but now that you mention it .. not surprising.

Pumice Stone comes from one source only .. Volocanoes

(unless there is a synthetic material being called pumice these days)

Yes, pumice stone is a volcanic substance and that's why Indonesia
and Turkey are the major suppliers of pumice stone. Although Italy has a better quality in pumice stone, the supplies from Italy is limited.

Dear Yaranimex,

U r right. Denim suitable for stone washing is better than denim suitable for enzyme wash only. The costing is bit expensive also.
