Any ways to reduce the import duty cost in US?
Post 1 of 4

Hi

I need a help, I have a customer from US, who buy small travel case from us, this caseis for earbuds only, and the material is made from airform,  and they incurred a 17.6% import duty cost, now my customer want me to help them to solve this problem, if we can find another way to reclassify the goods?or any other ways to reduce the import duty cost?  they are for US custom.

Tks in advance.

Quoting from [Elecpack]:

Your customer's freight forwarder can be asked .I think that he is the best person who can be consulted about reducing the duty fees.

This would for the most part be on your customer. Your customer should work with their Customs Broker..or look into getting the item itself preclassed directly with US Customs. They might be able to ask customs about making modifcations to it as well to bring it in under another cl *. I would defintiely get that in writing from Customs however!

Perhaps your customer is asking you if you're making a similar product for another customer to advise if they are bringing it in under another classification/HTS code.

The odds of getting earbuds reclassified is very remote. Any importer should have already done their research and calculated the import duty into their cost.

This is the IMPORTERS problem not the manufacturer/agents problem.
