When suppliers get inquiry from web, only 1 or 2 mails, customer will ask for samples. Now it became a problem puzzled me.
At first,I REALLY would like to supply samples to the potential customers even free. But each day, over 2 new buyer ask for samples,I will be a big problem to me.It is really a big quantity of samples, especially it will sppear everyday.I have to spend more time to check the customer is real or not, then ask colleague of showroom to prepare more and more samples, even the boss is not very satisfied with me.
Another reason,my products is embroidery,we create new design everyday by our designer,so if we supply the sample of new design, that means we have very big risk to lose the new creation in market.
So,I think this is a big problem for both buyer and seller, the buyer would not order without checking sample, the seller would not supply sample to every inquiry.
Maybe the most important question is to distinguish the real buyer.

Every one have any comments?
Or what shall I do if I want to distinguish the real buyer or refuse one only want to get samples?

Replying to [AlexWang]: Each Company sets aside a sum of money to promote their business. You should also set a mark of free samples you shall be sending each year.
We ourselves provide all the new enquiries with free trade samples. Firstly, we mutilate them so they cannot be sold. Secondly, we ask the customer to pay for shipping.
It is not that all customers who are not willing to pay for the shipping are frauds. Some companies have policies against providing their courier account numbers and some have had bad experineces in the past (like unwanted samples, misuse of courier account, etc..) Thus it is entirely up to your GUT FEELING to decide which of these customers you wanna place your best upon. Do your due diligence for such customers.
You must inform the customers providing their courier account numbers that the samples leaving your factory would be MARKED "SAMPLES" and might be mutilated. This shall deter the free sample seekers!!
Sometimes, a small wholeseller is on the look-out of new suppliers and tries his luck througha B2B site. He shall never provide any courier account nor shall he pay for the shipping, but you might geta life long customer if he likes your product!! Thus you have to be very selective and careful about the Companies to whon you send free samples............

Agree with it, I as a buyer would ask the supplier to send me the samples 1st before we could talk about the order. I won't pay any for the samples as you would know that usually we source from various supplier, imagine all supplier ask us to pay for every samples? The most I could offer is paying for the freight charges, nothing more than that!

I'm talking from the buyer's perception, and i think it's same from the supplier's view. So I think should go away with the sample charges and just charges for the freight. That's more reasonable.

also we should be known that your item can be meets with which market ?

thence you can finding more real buyer at that market.

we also for samples are free to customer, but freight should be pay at their side.

The problem of samples, free or paid for, freight ,etc will never go away.It is part of our business. Just use your judgement to determine the situation. When you go to the market to buy oranges, you see before you buy, some sellers offer free tasting, some don't , YES OR NO. Sweet oranges,I BUY 10 pcs. Hmmmmm

       1. Your  stuff  is  not  general and  common, it is fashionate/designate  embroidery,

maximum  just  send  a  cut  of  photo, close up  and e-mail them.

       2. Samples  for  approval only been  given  after  order been made and deposit advance payment  had been  received.   This is to test  how  serious they want to buy, or just  really  want  a Gratis - sample... !?  be  confident  of your  design and works.

      3.  But  nevertheless,  make a clear  specification  of  your  beanding,  the material, the threads,  the  stain/color,  the  density of  fabrics...etc...

     4.   The  most  of   you  ignore are  the  certificates as  kind  of   ISO,  STandard  nn ..etc

By  certicication  ( incl:  test  lab  of  materials ).  actually if  it  is provided,  there is no doubt about  quality and  no doubt  to order...(buy)
