Stuart Jay Raj speaks 15 languages fluently - Tonight with Tom Mintier
Post 1 of 6
Imagine a poly-linguist who speaks, reads and write 15 languages, from different background and cultural roots: such as English, Thai, Mandarin, Indonesian, Malaysian, Spanish, Danish, Norwegian, Lao, Sign Language, Cantonese, Swedish, Italian, Hindi, Udu, Japanese, Tagalog, Arabic, Sanskrit, Korean, Burmese, PWO (Karen hill tribe language), and Tamil in order of proficiency of speech, reading and writing.

Stuart Jay Raj, in an interview with Tom Mintier on TONIGHT Show. Stuart's father is a Fiji Indian, and mother, Australian. He picked up the languages from his maternal grandfather, who ran a shortwave radio broadcast in Italian. Grandpa spoke numerous languages fluently, E.g. Italian, Hebrew, Russian and Mandarin, when those days, it was unusual for a white man to speak Chinese.

Stuart learned languages by typing them out, and the phonetics, or tone, is a mapping of the throat and mouth to be agile in the pronunciations. Interesting enough, linguists do not make much money by doing just translations, he went further to be a intermediate between Governments, Businesses and did negotiations. Watch this 3 part video below in You Tube. The last part is Stuart using Thai as his base language on Thai TV.

Learn the secret to language ability. Throughout the conversations in the interviews, I have picked up several key points mentioned by Stuart on how he develop his language skills.

  1. Tone, pronunciation colours.
  2. Environment for learning.
  3. Read the Dictionary, and dream about  it. (Visualise speaking in that language)
  4. Keen interest to learn the language, motivated by some agenda.
  5. Must have the X-Factor in you.
  6. Oral Mapping of the throat, mouth and tongue.
  7. Listen, talk, read and write it down.
  8. Start from a base, and expand laterally.

New tools are available, such as PODCAST lessons in the foreign language are available from different sources. You can learn at your own pace, in your own environment and at your own time. Download the lesson on to your MP3  / MP4 / Hand Phone / players and learn it during idle time, or before going to bed.

Don't lose it, use it, practice speaking the language in the environment. Stuart says he tried to speak Hindi in India, but most Indians want to communicate in English, some in Hindish. Stuart is conversant in the Italian, European and Chinese with his grandfather at age of 6. The barriers to learning a new language is the preconceived ideas and the mindset of the student. Stuart mentioned about a visitor to a country who uses green tea as medicinal herb, and not green, but red, all going not according to the mindset, where green tea has to be green, and water cannot be of other colour.

Stuart shares the secret of learning a foreign language.

You guys, got lots to learn from the Great Guru. His interview is in Thai, and Stuart speaks fluently, with the difficult words, expressions and the technical meanings of the Thai language.

It can be any one of us, there has to be a way to learn the language of the other race of people at the other part of the world, and keep on building up the vocabulary.
