Replying to [yarenimex]: I would say your main objective promoting a website would be to list exactly what you do.. ie: services and guarantees if any and you should make it easy to read and understand.

A good website should always be a selling tool, first and foremost, whether it's for a profit or non-profit making organisation. A profit-making organisation is trying to sell products or services, obviously. Non-profit-making organisation is also promoting ('selling') whatever it does in order to get membership (funding) or sponsorship/grants (funding).
Too many websites are really one-upmanships in design and a show-off for all those terrible flash and colours and cartoons and what-have-you flying all around the pages. Web designers should be reminded at all times the primary purpose of websites. Because it's on screen, and our eyes really are not meant for hours and hours of looking at screens, unlike printed brochures.
Designs should complement and where possible enhance/strengthen the message and corporate image. Contents, among others, should definitely include "About Us" with street address and land lines. "Contact Us" should be featured on every page, in every single page.
A "What's New/Latest" page is always a good thing to have, and ideally linked to your "Products/Services" page.
And "Site Map" is very useful especially for repeat visitors/customers to navigate without wasting more time than is necessary.
Newspaper clippings/news about you/your company is an excellent promotional item in any websites (assuming it's positive news). There's no better promotional material than those written about you (not by you, or your paid copywriter) by an independent paper/magazine who has no apparent vested interest in your business.
