Kids are trouble!
Post 1 of 17

We've all heard and probably even said these words, but when they come as an honest comment from the mouth of a four year old girl, you gasp!

One day my older granddaughter was telling me about her plans to marry "John Doe" and have one child.

Regaining composure I asked, "one child; why just one?" She grew a little embarrassed and answered, "well... you know... kids are trouble".

Now I was on my turf and replied, "yes, they are, but how do you know... because of how you are?"

She grew even more embarrassed and said, "well, yes... and because of him!" (pointing at her brother)

True, kids are trouble, but nothing is worse than kids who admit that and on top even enjoy being trouble! Though, in fact, that's why I love them! [em1]

You seem to feel about kids the way I do. When kids behave a little too well, I get nervous because it isn't natural. I always want to tell them, "Come on, do something wrong! Break a plate or whatever, but don't just sit there and behave so well. That's not what children are supposed to do". - From my point of view, I was a very good or "natural" child... [em3]

Nice one, germex ! It's good to have colourful characters like you livening up things

on Alibaba.com. And I say that with the greatest respect !

I think your tagline sums up things beautifully ! ("Doing busines is great, being

a grandpa....")

:)

Thanks for that pat on the back! Yeah, I think it is very important to remember that we as human beings are not perfect and that we have to deal with our imperfections as part of our lives. We can react to that with a grumpy attitude or we can laugh about all those little mishaps. And you already know what I prefer to do...

By the way, you look pretty young in your avatar, though I don't know if it is a recent picture. Have you already experienced the joys and sufferings of fatherhood? Frankly, I often felt like a yoyo with all those ups and downs, but in hindsight I must say that without them life would have been pretty dull. And that would have been the worst suffering! [em2]

** Standing ovation! ** (sorry, I do not have an emoticon for that)

Hehe, that's not my pic....it's a pic of one of my heroes Ole Gunnar Solksjaer of Man. United

but I'll leave the football for another day :)

I'm already a father - there's no better feeling, believe me. Each and every day I try to learn

something new from my 2 and a half year old son! Of course, it's never a level road, but

I'm in it for the long haul and I know I'll end up a much better person for it. I'd hope sooner

rather than later.

As for attitudes, of course you're right - nothing beats the man who smiles through adversity.

I'm hoping to get there one day !

Believe me, the more you endorse the mischievousness (but never evilness) of your kids and even participate in it, the less they'll give you a hard time. Especially if they see that tale telling sparkling in your eyes when you connive something mischievous, they'll consider you their best buddy. So for that reason they'll respect and follow you, and therefore you can steer their natural tendency to mischieve in the right direction. - Whodathunk, huh? [em3]
