Why don't people like doing business with Africans?
Post 1 of 42

I ask this question because I've seen a lot of post and replies with people 'naming' Africans for their perils in Intl Trade. I read one post where the poster said: 'I was scammed by an African.' Ironically, a week or so later the poster posted again: "I was scammed again!" This time the poster didn't mention the race of the scammer. Through investigation it turned out this time they were 'scammed' by a Canadian, yet there was no mention of there nationality. I don't think that were scammed either time, but that's not the point.

I've also been reading post and replies from people saying they don't/won't/never will do business with Africans. When I see things like this it makes me laugh because I wonder how ignorant can you be to not want to do business with the richest continent in the world, with no other continent even close to being second. You can't turn on a Intl News Channel (CNN, BBB, etc) any week without hearing about Jintao or Jiabao, or some other China trade representative, signing some multi million or billion dollar deal with some African country; with both sides smiling ear to ear.

Basic African Facts:

- Number one continent for growth for consummerables
- Richest (in terms of continental reserves) continent in the world filled with: oil, gold, salt, diamonds, benzite, and other natural stones and gems
- Third in the world for growth potential behind China and India
- Third most populated continent in the world

With this type of information, only an *** wouldn't want to do business with Africa.

There is a difference between playing business and being in business. If you're in a legitimate business, your business should have a set of rules and guidelines to follow to protect you from bad business dealings. No set of rules are 100% all the time. However you should develop, change, and modify your practices (rules) with the times, or adopt some from someone else.

In my opinion, It's harmful, destructive, and ignorant to post topics that includes someones race, sex, or ethnicticy in a negative manner. I wish some Mods and/or Alibaba would enforce this better.

To single out any one country, whether it be China, Indonesia, or Africa as place you wouldn't want to bo business with, you should look into your OWN lack of understanding and ignorance in business.

In 10 years of business, these are the countries we've done business with: America, Canada, UK, Mexico, Peru, Pakistan, China, Japan, Australia,Thailand, The Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Norway, Spain, Nigeria, France and Turkey.

In all that time 96% of all of our business deals went reasonable smooth. Out of the remaining 4%, 3% of the deals didn't do go smoothly because of cultural misunderstandings. The majority of the cultural misunderstandings were our companies fault for not understanding the new market we were trying to enter.

I've had 3 bad business deals. Two with Chinese companies, 1 with an America.

In any bad experience, or cultural misunderstanding I've had over the years, not once did it sour me from doing business with an entire race, continent, sex, religious, or ethnic group. That would be foolish.

However, for those of you who insist that you would never do business with Africa or an African, I'm a reasonably intelligent guy. I'll give all of my MVP points to anybody that can provide me with an intelligent reason on why they wouldn't do business with Africa or/an African.

James

Replying to [Obiwill]: James, I don't believe you will get one. I've done business in Nigeria, South Africa, and Senegal on be-half of my clients without any problems. Im with you on this one. Why wouldnt you if you can verify the trading partner? Our client was going to do business with an import company here in the US that specialized in African products. Through our contacts we were able to negotiate the same products from Africa without the 300% mark up.

Replying to [Obiwill]:Yes! I fully agree with you, Infact the problem may be the frauders re scattered worldwide but use the name of a nation to spoil the image. No one wants that his.her country/continent image is distorted. Hence they might use the name of any unknown country/continent. Well scammers are everywhere, one need to be cautious.

You're right! I may not get one. So does that mean people will change their ignorant stance on Africa/Africans?

I'm still waiting for someone to answer why they wouldn't do business in Africa.

Replying to [Obiwill]:Thank you very much my dear Brother and friend, I thought i was in this war all by myself , i have tried to ask this same question in different ways in this forum and no one has really given me an answer that will be termed fair.
I will like to say to everyone out there , let us give Africa, and expecially Nigeria a chance, No true scammer will want to spoil the name of his country and even if Nigeria has her share of bad eggs, Nigerians are far better than we are giving them credit for.
Africa, I believe holds the key to the next level of global trade and wealth, and whoever is blind to see this can be left behind.
thank you. [em3]
