Is Alibaba.com really growing in the correct manner ?
Post 1 of 18

Hi all,

I've been using Alibaba regularly over the last 2-3 years or so and it seems to me that

this B2B site is perhaps growing too fast and with too much emphasis on getting ahead

without setting its own backyard in order.

There are so many issues for which there seems to be no end or solution in sight. For

eg: Scammers in the guise of Gold suppliers and Trust pass members.

It seems to me Alibaba is only thinking of creating more revenue streams for itself

without mopping up certain potential landmines on its sites. Alibaba seems to charge

exorbitant fees for its Gold membership and Trust Pass schemes. How come scammers

and fraudsters are also able to get in ? Is this fair on the several thousand genuine

Gold/Trust Pass registered suppliers out there or indeed on the buyers who have

paid-up their memberships ?

It seems sad that Alibaba cannot divert a little chunk of its revenue into clearing up

its own website first. Just the other day I saw a supplier advertising knock-off

football jerseys. The only thing missing is the actual brand logo - so, does this

qualify as acceptable ? How would you like it if someone ripped off your ideas and

products that way ? Funnier still was the fact that this same supplier was a Gold

Supplier ! How ??

I could go on about cetain other stuff on this site but I guess all the regulars here

already know the flaws that need to be addressed - and addressed in a hands-on

way.

I just wonder how long all this is going to last ? Was this the way Jack Ma envisioned

things to be for his little start-up of yester-year ?

The fact that they have stashed away 2 billion dollars really makes me wonder if they have any business sense. Even if it is supposed to be some kind of "reserve", there are better ways to invest it. This lack of reasoning capacity leaves little hope that one day things will change for the better.

Yes indeed, germex. I guess they're worried about the "recession" :)

Well, I've applied to be a moderator on one of the forums - I suppose I'm willing to put my money (or efforts) where my mouth is on these kind of issues. I do not know how successful or what difference it's going to make - one man is not an army!  - but I will do my best...

To combat recession you sometimes need aggression. Of course this is a word game, but a true one. When people leave behind their "bureaucratic" way of being and behave in a proactive way, then this kind of "aggression" (against problems) is very effective.

Anyway, the new list of mods was supposed to come out on July 30. Wonder what happened...

True, germex.

I really hope the folks here who are able to act in making the positive changes do so -

and soon...

I believe the new mods have been "selected". I am supposedly one of them and am

awaiting Alibaba's further email on this. Let's see. You may pls see Carol's posting

near the top of each Forum on this matter (in the top 3  to 4 postings of each forum).

Dear friends, like you I have asked to my self  WHY the alibaba system don't found a good

way to give a real reliability to theirs suppliers.

This is my Idea:

1: The money cheated to the foreign unexpert traders, come the same in China and

give a further help at the Chinese economy.

2: The cheater of today will be the traders of tomorrow.

3: Alibaba is always the best B2B site in the web and Mr. Ma know it as well.

Anyway this forum is a great way to know the market back stage. The life of the

joung chinese sellers that live in the factories with theirs dreams and hard work.

I'm glad to have found this site, besides Isn't a news for me to have be very carefull

in the biz, in my country is the same all days. At least here I have the L/C and the inspector.

In Italy isn't so simple.

Good luck to all.
