What does Alibaba do when they're told a Gold/Trustpass member scammed another Alibaba Member?
Post 1 of 10
I read this reply in the forum on fraud. I have read similar like this and have my own opinion on a time when I notified Alibaba about a Gold member that was trying to scam me. Here's the reply:

Re: Re: How do scammers flourish? How do we stop them?
Replying to [Obiwill]: Well said.
I've just been scammed by a TrustPass, Gold Member...and I don't understand how EVERY company that has contacted me will only accept Western Union or Bank Transfer....yet every post I see has people noting to NEVER Use WU??? Regarding the small order...I am only beginning a business I saw Alibaba as my portal to do this...and on my first test order of 5 Ipods, I was taken for $930. NO, I don't have tens of thousands to spend right now, as my child just had a liver transplant and our medical costs are over 1/2 a million, but I trusted THIS site, because it indicates that each TP and GM are confirmed as reliable businesses.
I've sent my complaint to Alibaba, and I was told they made a phone call to the supplier, and I'm to work it out directly with them...amazingly enough, they stopped replying to my emails, and when I phone, no one seems to be able to speak english...although they could certianly email in english. I was then told, if I file a lawsuit against the business Alibaba will remove them from the site????
I sent Alibaba enough documentation to prove they are scamming me, and still no help.
I believe anyone willing to pay to be a gold supplier or a trust pass member is popped up on this site with NO research whatsoever. I have yet to be contacted by a company that in my cheated mind is a legitimate company...explain THAT ONE!
In the meantime, anyone living near Xiuyu Daitou Supply and Marketing Artel Communication Salesroom please let me know!!!!
Anyone that has read any of my replies knows I'm usually sarcastic when dealing with those that have been scammed through their own fault. I often find it funny. This reply however, I don't find very humerous. What is your opinion?

James

Sorry about to hear about your kid. Alibaba should take affirmative actions against those fake GM or TP. Since I became a member this early Jan, I dare not make any trades, because some of them I found are fake (well the most reason is because they want TT or WU). I am really angry that after making all those calls and emails, and later I found out that those GM or TP are scammers. It wasted my time and money.
Let me tell the process of becoming a TP, because I am a TP myself. I thought being a TP, I can build up the trust level in trading, but apparently it is not that way after going through some of the forum here. Anyway, how to become a TP is very simple. Paid the $500, get a phone call from a representative and you are granted the TP membership. If I am a scammer, I can be a TP very easily.
Alibaba's GM and TP membership critera are too easy. I think Alibaba is a relative young company, and they have not give enough thoughts into these area. Alibaba should work with the local authorities to rid of all these scammers too.

Thomas,
It was not my child or post. I copied it from a poster in the fraud forum. I feel sorry for the guy because he relied too much on Aliaba. I agree with you and wish/hope that Alibaba will do more, or they may risk being sued in Intl courts.

Replying to [Obiwill]:I can sympathise as I got shanked on my first order and I cant even get Alibaba to reply to my messages?
Thinking laterally, the story was "Ali Baba and the 40 thieves"
Ironic really as the site puts you in contact with rather more than 40 thieves. More like 40,000 still that's progress for you.
Maybe someone can spot a business opportunity "Debt collecting" in Indonesia, China etc for all the many people who got ripped off for a percentage of monies returned?
I wish you and your family well

Alibaba is intended for business purposes. Whether anybody is a scammer as long as he paid, alibaba welcomes him.
Dont believe in the 3rd party verification. The company itself who claimed to be verified by the 3rd party is the one who verified itself.
So, gold or trustpass members do not guaranty the genuine and honesty of the person or company.
May I take this opportunity to post these 2 professional scammers here in alibaba.
Beware of these 2 companies!!!
1. Zhengzhou Century Union Ocean Mechanical Equipment Import&Export Co.,Ltd
2. Company name: Xi an Yu Xin Import & Export Co., Ltd

Replying to [Obiwill]:We too have been scammed by this Xiuyu Daitou Supply company for about $1,000 for a sample order. Alibaba should shut down any company being accused of fraud much like PayPal does.

I agree with you 100% which is why I posted this topic. I once wrote a reply on the practice of paypal (which is not perfect). If Alibaba adopted half of the practices of Paypal, they would actually generate more business and revenue. Unfortunately what you see is the short sided thinking of many of the Asian communities. They only think about the money they'll lose if they shut down the scammers. They don't however stop to think about what they'll gain by doing the right thing. The longer I live, the more I realize that peoples integrity usually comes with a dollar (or rmb) amount! ;)

I'm not sure PayPal is much of an ideal... they tend to shut down their customers for very shaky reasons sometimes, leading to a lot of bad press on them (www.paypalsucks.com). And there are still plenty of scammers using PayPal, so the result is more or less the same.
Though I'm sure there are things that could be improved, and I'm moving this to Talk With Alibaba.
