I am new to this and like many I am a bit weary to send money to anyone and get scammed. I am looking to buy sports jerseys, shoes, and clothing and sell them locally and through ebay. I am wondering how to go about picking the right supplier and know that they wont scam me. Its sad to say but it seems like that is what the world has come to. Could someone point me in the right direction as to how I should go about finding a supplier and how to go about with the transaction. Any info that people have would be great.

If you want to start business with chinese supplier and want keep away scammers ,You'd better buy china brand products with good quality . you have to check the supplier very clearly and know basic information of their licence and location ,and factory production ability , anyway you try your best to find a serious business factory ,do not find the cheapest one .It is better you visit the factory before you made a big order ,and you need Obser the people who contact with you is a real supplier or not . I think you can start business very well in the future .

You are right smiley, but chinese brand products will also cost higher, and after duties and freights paid, the price will be reasonably higher. I think it is better to go for sampling first, and told your agent in china to check the quality and truthfullness of the supplier, you can rely on your known supplier in china and make payment through him only, he would charge little.

There have been a few things stated within this thread that I don't personally agree with, let me explain why.

1. Get contact details of current or past customers - most customers would not prefer that factories give out their contact information to potential new customers. It is the factories job to reassure new customers that they can do the job, not the role of other customers to do this. Also consider that some customers may have a vested interest in not encouraging new customers to that factory as a busy factory may take longer to produce product for them.

2. Gold Supplier status at alibaba means nothing as far as the worth of the company. Every new supplier in China is required to pay for Gold Supplier status so it is not a note of how good the company is but whether they have paid for membership.

3. Escrow.com and Credit cards are not widely accepted in China. If you are buying in small quantities and can find a supplier that can accept these then well and good, but if you limit yourself to these payment methods you may find yourself restricted in the products you can buy and the suppliers you can deal with.
