Dear all
I would like to import goods from china to the UK. I have found a legitemate supplier and he has accepted a sample order via t/t. I know its not the safest transaction but even if i do get scammed i wont lose a lot.

Now, considering I am a total novice, I need to know what are the procedures of actually getting the goods to me. Im aware that I am solely responsible for the good(s) when it arrives in my country. but what form there? how to i collect the good? how do i pay customs?
Can someone tell me the step by step procedure on how to actually obtain the good(s)/importing.

If possibe, you can reach me on Deleted by Moderator. am usually online, i would be grateful if anyone can just spare some of thier time to help explain everything to me.:)

warmest regards

contact a custom agent. s/he will (must) do all for you. s/he will charge you some, of course. but, without custom agent, you, a novice, may face lots of troubles when clearing the custom.

you dont need a agent..... unless you are too lazy or happy to pay for 'professional' service.

www.hmrc.gov.uk this is all you need.. just read it through.. you also need to know how to claim your VAT back....

1. goods arrived in customs,
2. your received letters from customs for loging required documents;
3. fill in the forms and hand it in;
4. received invoice from customs and pay for it;
5. collect the goods

some of the steps might happen at once, like step 4 and 5.

On the other hand, if you better register for VAT so you could claimed it back.... how? do some homework...

It is necessary knowledge you need to know before you start importing. Also, samples from China always meets your requirement, but they always rip you off on the actual order... unless you have someone check it for you in China before they ship.

There are no such thing as reliable supplier, even they supplying Coca cola..........

Good luck!

Replying to [nek1]:Hi there, I too am a bit of a novice as far as importing to UK is concerned. But what I did was to speak to a local Carrier. Here in Belfast my carrier was able to look after all the paper-work, import duties, etc. I had to pay the import duties as soon as they delivered goods to me. As I have an account with them, they invoiced me for the shipping and I paid them within 30 days. Hope this helps.
