Alibaba.com's Arabian Nights party was recently held at the Alhambra Palace, a Middle Eastern themed restaurant, in Chicago on June 19. With the help of co-sponsor, ECMTA (the E-Commerce Merchants Trade Association, the event attracted some 300 eBay Power Sellers who were in town to attend eBay Live 2008.

 

 

Party-goers got in the spirit of the Arabian Nights theme as soon as they set foot in the beautifully decorated Alhambra Palace. Treasure chests full of costume jewelry help set the mood as the guests socialized and enjoyed free hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Belly dancers danced to live music, and entertained the guests with performances and impromptu belly dancing lessons.

 

Kelly Sang, GM of Alibaba.com's US-IBDM team, added to the fun and games as she spoke to the eBay sellers on how Alibaba.com can help them become more successful in their businesses. For many of the eBayers, this was the first time that they had heard of Alibaba.com.

 

The guests were invited to take part in a quiz game 'Are You Smarter than the Average eBayer?' Three contestants representing three groups were brought on stage. Each group’s contestant was asked questions about Alibaba.com and eBay, with answers and assistance provided by the group. The game entertained guests while also educating them with tips on how to improve their business. The winning group received a variety of door prizes and gifts for scoring the highest number of correct answers.

 

The house lights were reluctantly turned back on well after midnight, as party-goers began to head home. The message of "Source Direct on Alibaba.com, More Success on eBay" was just one of the things taken away by our guests. They also took with them Alibaba.com's famous orange tote bags stuffed party gifts including T-shirts and pamphlets filled with success stories. More importantly, a good time was had by everyone.
