New comers should punch "gold member" into the "Search Forums" panel at top of this page to get a little insight into the horrific extent of the scams.
Concerning certification, you need FCC/UL or CE or A-Tick/C-Tick certificates for legal resale of most types of electronic products is USA, EU and Australia respectively. Of the tens of thousands of Chinese electronic products listed on Alibaba, you could count on one hand those products which are properly certified. In other words, DO NOT IMPORT ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS FROM CHINA.
Can you show me one ... just one ... among the thousands of mainland China suppliers of consumer electronics who is not either a scammer or whose products are not illegal in the West or other developed countries?
The legitimate mainland China suppliers of certified product can be counted on one hand, yet Alibaba falsely describes all its thousands of mainland China Gold Members as "legitimate" in its marketing material.
By "consumer electronics" I mean any device which either plugs into mains power or which emits radio signals such as mobile phones/computers/bluetooths etc - all of which require compulsory certification in the importer's country.
Electrical safety and safe level of radio wave emission are of course the reasons for compulsory certification laws in the West and other developed nations.
Hi there big O. It's certainly true my friend and it's really pretty simple.
First, as most around here already know, 100% of all brand name suppliers based on mainland China are scammers (or they readily admit their products are fake). That's a wide-sweeping statement but unfortunately it is true.
Second, near none of the Chinese products are certified for legal resale in developed countries. I don't know the regulations in your own country of Indonesia but I'd be suprised if you don't have laws requiring proper testing/certification of any item associated with mains power electricity (including cords, plugs and adaptors etc) as well as a SAR limit for radio signals emitted from computers/bluetooth devices/mobile phones.
Other than a handful of top Chinese factories, the thousands of remaining mainland China electronic (and electrical) producers simply do not have the proper lab tests/certification needed to lawfully resell their products in the developed world.
The very first question any budding buyer should ask any supplier (Chinese or otherwise) of electronic or electrical products is whether they have UL/FCC (USA) or CE (EU) or A-Tick/C-Tick (Australia/New Zealand) certificates or etc for other regions.
One option is of course to avoid importing electronic products from China.
The other option is to ensure that you as the buyer get the appropriate certification based upon samples provided by the supplier so that you know that the supplier can meet the standard, and then institue a good technical document and inspection procedure to ensure that any production complies with the confirmation samples.
It is not that difficult to do if you are committed to the product and are willing to invest money and time to get it right.
Most buyers at alibaba seem to be looking for a quick buck and this is what leaves them more vulnerable to losing their money than the actions of suppliers. Do your research, do your preparation, and you will find that import is achievable!
Actually I find it kind of amazing that over 11,000 companies in Guangdong province claim to be manufacturer's of electronics on Alibaba. Yet, only 12 have been identified through a source in China as being legitmate manufacture's of these types of products. More often than not there are 20-30 businesses crammed into a small 100sqm office that are related to no manufacturing company and who are not wholesale distributors of any generic electronics product.
Here's a little info for the electronic buyers. Did you realize that advertising companies throughout China have set-up mock business offices. In other words pre-staged offices whereby any small business can come to them for a fee and they will set-up
- $1500.00USD a front desk/ reception area with or without a real person in the picture and the banner of the company overhead.
- $4500.00USD they will include the banner and lighting in mock style business office including employees working in those cubicles.
- $6000.00USD supply both packages above as well as pictures to support the type of business they represent. eg. warehouses/offices full of electronics, inside pictures of manufacturing facilities, outside pictures of manufacturing facilities.
These types of companies are easily discernable:
- Outside pictures of facilitiees but no one is around except for the camera person taking the photo.
- Track lighting on a company banner highlighting it in an office setting.
Compare the front desks that you see on alibaba from Gold Suppliers and Gold Suppliers with Trust P *. If you really analyze the pictures you can tell real from those that are staged. Think to yourself why is it so necessary to make sure that lighted company banner is in the picture.
Office space in business districts is at a premium no matter where in the world it is. Take for instance the Futian Business District in Shenzhen a 100sqm office near the the SZ Exhibition center and larger.
- 100sqm office £24,000 a month
- 500sqm office £140.000 a month
Even in Nanshan and Longgang office space goes for £10 per sqm a month.
People need to get a grip on believing that each of these little companies have offices in prime locations. When you start comparing addresses more often than not you will find that as many as 30 businesses may be represented in one small office in any prime Chinese business district as well as in Hong Kong.
So then scammers need only do a few $1000.00USD deals a month to pay the rent and make a profit.
Think, Investigate, and use Common Sense Business Principles.
