DO NOT IMPORT UNCERTIFIED ELECTRONIC/ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS FROM CHINA.
Post 1 of 9

In my somewhat substantial experience, 99.9% (yes, that's 999 in every 1,000) of mainland China suppliers of consumer electronics are either scammers OR their product is not certified for legal sale in developed countries.

Concerning scams, newbies are advised to punch "gold member" into the "Search Forums" panel at top of this page for insight into the horrific extent of the scams. In particular, not one of the thousands of brand name products offered by Gold Members is genuine - 100% of their brand name products are fake (this also includes brand name shoes, clothing etc etc as well as electronic products).

Concerning certification, are you aware that, by law, each model of each electronic and electrical product we import must be lab tested to gain the certification required by our respective countries - like USA, EU, Australia and etc? One or more Certificates such as UL, FCC, CE, A-Tick C-Tick etc are mandatory depending on our country. Of the tens of thousands of Chinese electronic / electrical  products listed on Alibaba, only a dozen or so are properly certified for legal resale in our import countries.

To search for products which may be lawfully resold by you in your country, simply add the certificate name to the search word. For example, to import into EU search for "mobile phone CE". Or, for USA, search "mobile phone FCC". Use that same technique for every other sort of electronic or electrical product and with a bit of perserverance you might find legal product. However, whether the supplier's product certificate is fake or genuine is another story.   [em1]

Negotiate with the supplier before order.  Make clear that their products really have passed the inspection certificate you need.

Concerning certification, you need FCC/UL or CE or A-Tick/C-Tick certificates for legal resale of most types of electronic products is USA, EU and Australia respectively. Of the tens of thousands of Chinese electronic products listed on Alibaba, you could count on one hand those products which are properly certified. In other words, DO NOT IMPORT ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS FROM CHINA.

I don't know the purpose of this friend's article, it seems to me that this is someone who has discrimination about "made in China". Some supplier may be unqualified, but it happened everywhere not only in China, furthermore,  most of suppliers in China try to meet the requirement of customers, our company is in business in broadcast equipment, we have the CE and RoHS certificate which is asked by our customers in Euro, that's the rule, you want to play the game, you have to got the qualification. May be there are more certificate will be asked by customers, we may not have right now, but we will apply for it, because we want to do business, and most supplier will do.

Congratulations Andy Liu. You are apparantly one of those 1 in 1,000 mainland suppliers whose electronic/electrical products are certified for legal sale at least EU.  Unlike your goodself, most mainland suppliers refuse to pay for proper lab tests to get certification.

My company buys large volumes of consumer electronics from China but unfortunately only a handful of suppliers have properly certified product.  Your typical small buyer on Alibaba knows nothing about certification and your typical Chinese supplier dodges it.

Incidently, my good wife of 15 years is Beijing-ese and we have serious investments in China. I happen to like the place, so no discrimination is at play here.   [em1]

You are right 99,9% of chinese products have no CE and all CE documents are Fake or got an approval for the golden sample only.

We pay a lot of money for 100% CE products and get rubbish items which can cause us a lot of problems in our countries upto 2 years Jail

It has been my experience that if it sounds too good to be true, it is.  Buyers need to ask about FCC, ROHS, and CE certifications at every stage of the purchase.  If the vendor already has certification, they will be eager to send a copy of it for the specific item to be purchased.  If not, they can get it if they want the business.  The certification codes need to be printed on the items and on the packaging.  otherwise, customs officials in the USA can confiscate the shipment and charge huge fines.

I have imported all kinds of consumer electronics, watches, and household items.  One of the first questions to ask should be regarding licensing and certifications.
