Concerning certification, you need UL, CE or A-Tick certificates for legal resale of most types of electronic products is USA, EU and Australia respectively. Of the tens of thousands of Chinese electronic products listed on Alibaba, you could count on one hand those products which are properly certified. In other words, DO NOT IMPORT ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS FROM CHINA.
Colin, if you take time to re-read my post, you will see I refer to only electronic products.
You see, in western countries our compulsory quality standards (requiring proper lab tests and proper certification) are much higher than in China.
Also, unlike China, we must fix or replace faulty electronic goods usually within 12 months after sale to consumer. Little is worth repairing because skilled repair workshops (of which there are few) price their labour out at around $100 per hour ... which forces us to replace faulty product with a new product.
And, we must pay even our own lowest paid office clerks at least $20 per hour (including their tax and other stuff) just to answer the phone for customers with warranty complaints. And, unlike China, Government departments here actually take sellers to Court, with no cost to the customer, to get free replacements for faulty products complete with big fines.
So, with added staff and office space costs etc, just one warranty problem at our end costs much money to fix like you wouldn't believe (which is why no Chinese electronic brand has ever succeeded in any country in the West).
Imagine if every electronic product sold in China had to be replaced with a new product if it failed in the first 12 months!!! Near everyone in China would be able to get a new replacement, in the first year, of every electronic product they buy. Correct?
Sure, every Chinese supplier will promise free repair within the first 12 months. But, in my considerable experience, its a promise that is worthless. As you know, Chinese suppliers do not put much weight on the legal aspects of upfront promises under the great Chinese culture of "Everything can be worked out later".
Broadly, Chinese electronic products are made for Chinese, African, South American and Eastern European markets which do not enforce certification and warranty laws like in developed western countries.
I know the scene pretty well as I have been dealing in China for the past 25 years - one of the first westerners there when it opened up - and my good wife of past 16 years is Beijing-ese where we have strong family and business ties.
It's a cultural difference sort of thing where Chinese electronic suppliers do not understand, and do not want to understand, the product quality and warranty laws of our western countries.
In talking about electronic products, I often say "The only good thing ever made in China is my wife". ![]()
We don't make electronic products..well, we may have try to import dog products, such as dog beds, dog kennel, dog crate as well as chicken coop and rabbit hutch from CHINA.

I do agree with ou, do not import goods from china or any company who asks for full payment before the goods arrive to you. they are scamers. it happen to me. this company send the invoice and documentation to me with prize send the money and from that day i wasn't recieve the email or the products. if you want to save money and get the product it is better to buy from australia or if the supplier is willing to send the product first.
good luck
