Replying To [nadeem62]:If you don't know any Chinese companies who can issue an invitation letter, then don't apply for a business visa.

yes the visa office will need a letter from the supplier to say you will be coming to vist on the days in question, must have their stamp and details and signed.
Contact a supplier and i am sure they will arrange this for you, what products do you want to buy?

If you are going to China to look for business opportunities, then I could suggest that you visit their Trade Fairs first. The Trade Fair Organiser welcomes everyone from any country to visit their Exhibition. You can write to them of yolur intentions and plans. This will be more productive, as you will be going to Trade Fairs that are relevant to your business plan.
You may look up the Directories of Trade Fairs in China, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Hongkong. They can also arrange hotels that offer free bus shuttle service from hotel to trade fair venues.
You have to work on step by step basis, do not jump into it, and especially be careful of people who offer you help for nothing. Many people in Hong Kong speaks English, so this is the most important language you need to communicate. The rest is up to you, do your own judgement and evaluation with due diligence.
Like Tiger said, you may apply for tourist visa, not on business trip, but tourism.
