Replying to [Foow]:the differences between a factory visit as you have described and a factory audit. I keep hearing both phrases used and am unsure what the differences are, if any.

I am not sure , but the difference between them is surely exist , I guess the different maybe as following: factory inspection is a general not very formal, your clerk have a visitation to the factory and find some clue to evaluate the value of your supplier.
factory audit is more formal than above mentioned; maybe will have some mid organization using their professional knowledge to go the factory have a investigation and then give your a formal report, this kind service will cost your money, such as CCIC, Export Credit Insurance Inc. etc. ,

Do you know the words "Quality Assurance"?

This concerns how a factory "assures" or ensures that all its finished products are acceptable quality.

A Factory Quality Control Audit (called Factory Audit for short) reports to a buyer what the factory actually does to ensure its finished products meet certain standards.

This sort of report is done by an experienced technical auditor within set international standards.

Replying to [Business in China]: Justin, great article, you cannot clearly trust Alibaba as they are a for profit organisation, look at this response ot my on going alert to them....finally action...how many more are out there...?

This is Tina, Manager of Alibaba service team.

Regarding the issue brought by you about Asia Wheels Holdings Ltd., after
thorough investigation, we found the factory fully owned by Asia Wheels
Holdings Ltd., is just under construction. At present, it is indeed not
proper to have Asia Wheels Holdings Ltd. listed as a manufacturer. We fully
apologize for it and for the misunderstandings it caused to you. As you have
noticed, Asia Wheels Holdings Ltd. has modified its company introduction and
business type.

We really appreciate your bringing this problem to our attention. It will be
forwarded to our relative department for consideration to improve our
website. Have a nice working day!

Sincerely yous,

Tina Tong

Replying to [Business in China]:Thanks, Justin. I am from those not so small, let's say middle owners and to visit and inspect factory or company in order to buy 50 pcs PS2 is not worth of.
I have done it another way. Gold Supplier sent me a quotation but there were 3 managers from the same company. I asked everybody to send me pro-forma invoice and it appeared that they have no idea what is it at all.
Still the pearl of the matter appeared when beeing sent a specimen they filled the invoice. The same in all 3 of them was the benefeciary name:KeJunRong and his PRIVATE bank account. Different address though in Putian City, different prices of course. May be it would be useful
to recommend inspected companies to buyers or to make local export certicate obligatory at least for Gold to be seen at their sites and there should be a possibility for buyer to identify supplier with registration code,

Excellent Article.
I went to China last October/2006, I spent 15 days visiting suppliers, what happend? only a very few of them had its own factory, but all claimed to have one.
My experience was really bad and expensive too, so its VERY IMPORTANT to have a local person like you to do the visting.

Best regards.

There is no English version government website for you to check out your partner in China. http://www.saic.gov.cn/ The State Administration for Industry & Commerce (SAIC) of the People’s Republic of China or its bureaus at all levels, is the competent authority directly under the State Council in charge of market and company registration in China. You may contact them for details, but they never check out a company for you free of charge in China.

Good luck everybody.
