Safest method of sending payment for a purchase?
Post 1 of 7

  Dear Sirs,

Please let me know what you would consider as safest method of payment for high tonage of goods to be arrived at a port?

If you would kindly list different methods and rank them as to their safety, we would appreciate it.  Thanks.

Hi All!

You did not specify one thing: Safe for whom? The buyer or the seller!![em2]

Well, for the buyer it is......

1)L/C : The safest and only method is always and always an 100% confirmed, irrevocable L/C at sight, payable without recourse. The L/C should be confirmed by any International First Clas Bank which is in the IFC list.

2)Paypal :

3) Escrow account :

For the seller  it is :

100% ADVANCE PAYMENT ALONGWITH OR  BEFORE ORDER [em1]

 Cheers

Don't you see some conflict's with what you just said?  L/C is not an advance payment, nor is escrow so if the best terms for a seller are 100% in advance that negates those two choices.

However:

The safest form of payment can be anything provided the criteria for making a specific form of payment has been met.

Personally any supplier that demands 100% in advance without POP inspection, SBLC, and or a formal contract under ICC rules is not a legitmate supplier.  In fact never in 28 years of doing international have I ever been required to submit 100% payment in advance.  My first purchase was in India where the supplier only needed enough for shipping to the U.S., the rest was verbal and a handshake.  Isn't it funny that business never seems to be done in this way anymore.  Of course that was in the day when people actually honered those types of commitments.

If you are a buyer then security is not so much in the payment method you choose but in ensuring that the product packed and sent to you is as expected.

Probably the most common 'safe' method is to have an LC with the requirement of a pre-shipment inspection before payment is released. You then arrange for someone to check the production out for you BEFORE it ships and before payment is released to the seller.

Personally, I prefer to use Ohibomo.com.  They will safeguard your funds, and only release the funds to your seller after you have inspected your mercahandise.

Thats funny that you would perfer a business that has no legal standing as an escrow company in the United States.  Any business in the U.S. that holds money in trust on behalf of anyone else must be registered with the United States Department of Treasurery.
