Hi All, Just wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers to get started importing goods into Australia, do I go thru an import company and let them do it all or is there an easier way, I know this is a very broad question but there is nothing on the net to that can help me get started.
cheers
The important is your should know the VAT, TAX, certificate of product whether required for custom.
Here may be some ways for your reference:
1. To give a small order for testing.
2. If big order, ask any helper to help you to verify the company for you, it cost just a little.
3. If you can get some cerfitifcates those shows ok to trade with, such like a SGS report of this company, I think it is quite credable.
As you are new in trade with the suppliers, I suggest you to get any one to be your representitive at your local export country, so that they can help you to avoid many problems that may happen. I think you can look into the topic here that many buyer here complains about problems happened with the suppliers.
If you need any help, I 'd be happy to work for you.
If you are new to importing then you are probably best to choose a less complicated product....perhaps you could start out with motor cycle accessories and then move up to the motorcycles themselves.
Aussie is the guy to speak to if he is still around here as he has made a number of posts about importing vehicles, scooters, and motorcycles to Australia.

Often importing one piece for personal use is treated somewhat differently by customs, but the product that you are looking to import may be different as there are some real safety and environmental concerns with it.
Even if you are just getting one piece now it does seem that your plan is to make this into a business and if so then you need to reconsider. What value would there be in getting this sample if you could never turn that purchase into orders?
There is growing interest in these types of vehicles with petrol prices the way that they are but to make money from this you are probably going to have to invest money to do it properly.
Perhaps you could look toward providing accessories for these types of products instead. That way you can ride the wave without being the one who risks the most!
