Your mum is entitled to her old fashioned opinion which is OK if we still lived in the 50's but today a woman can be empowered with knowledge and successful. As a human being, the most important thing is to be yourself and do what you think is right. Listen to your heart. What would be the point of doing something against your will?!

How to get rich is not based on gender or race, but on basic principles which you can follow. To attain wealth, you have firstly to seek wisdom, and with wisdom you can have both wealth and health.
You can learn from successful billionaires like Warren Buffet, or Bill Gates. Or you can pick up books like "How to be a Millionaire" and pick up the tips. First you have to lay the foundations of prosperity by getting some paper qualifications. Take up a life-time learning process, not to be complacent, but always upgrading and update yourself with new skills and going to a higher level in whatever you do.
Learn to budget your spending, and never get into debts which you cannot afford to pay. Have a reserve funds for emergency, buy an insurance policy and make contingencies for your prospects. If you need to borrow money, make sure it is seed money, where you can pay back on its returns. Make an analysis of your plans, and draw hypothesis with questions "what if", apply Murphy's laws.
Language study is a tool to get you into something else, but it remains benign, as it does not really give you any advantage over others to make money. You got to use this tool to expand into something else, like business communication, and learn the substance rather than the means.
You got to know why you are doing whatever your job requires, and look at it in a bigger picture.
If your plans, goal setting and purpose is going into that direction, you ought to have a vision for your mission. The level of your success will depend on your vision. Stay focus on it, and from time to time keep on repeating it in your heart, that you can do it. Make a score board for your performance, and evaluate your achievements towards the goals set and adjust the action plan according to the results.
It is good to meet a life partner who will compliment your mission to become a rich person, and it will be your circle of social interaction that you meet people of the same mindset from the opposite sex. That will promote your stripes to achieve the goals and even bring them to a higher level which you can never do it alone.

These days a rich man can suddenly lose everything and become a poor man. There are no guarantees that anything will last forever.
Also, if you are too dependent on such a person, how do you know that he will treat you fairly? Perhaps someday he may trade you for a younger, prettier girl.
Also, if you marry someone just because they are rich, are you being honest with yourself, and this other person? Without honesty, we humans are only animals who learned to make clothing. Without honesty, you will come to resent this man, and he will come to resent you as well, and then you will hate each other.
It is better that you have a sufficient job to support yourself.
In the future, when you look for a husband, look for someone who is stable, but not necessarily rich. Look for a man who is not a child, and who does not have too many bad habits. Then you will be happy.

hi, i must say this is a very interesting topic. i have enjoyed reading partially to some of the advice given here. All i can say is that do what you beleive is right. Get rich quickily can lead to getting poor very quickly as well.
Use your brains and don't rely on a rich man's one. He can go bankrupt tomorrow and you will suffer whereas, what you have achieved for yourself which forever remain yours. Is good to listen to parents but bad enough if you don't learn to make decision for yourself .

Haha, the choice should depend on what you are pursuing and what you can get but not what you mom said! If you are lazy girl, you can seek for a rich man in a short view, but we never know what will happen in the future.
Nothing will guarantee unchanged forever, but your knowledge, your capabilities/ abilities can keep you safe. You may enjoy the splendid success joy after your effort, that is no one can give you but yourself .
People tends to associate marriage with wealth, and I do admit that money is vital for a marriage, but above that, you should be rational and clear about your goal, in another words, What's your motivation or purpose?
For example, we work hard to get money or do business to get more money. And we exercise to get slim, etc. AND HOW ABOUT THE MARRIAGE?
HAPPINESS, of course! In the earth, there're things which can't be purchased by money.
