Quoting from [amitra123]:

Hi:

I am a newbe, and planning to import electronics items(Cell phones GPS etc) from China and sell it in the US. I am going through many trading companies and whloilesellers from china(Listed in this site). Many of them are saying that they would sell say nokia phones for a price about 20% less than US price.

My question is, how do I know that these are original handsets and not fakes. Can a trader in china sell nokia or say samsung phone just like that?

In that note, suppose I select a trading company and plan to buy stuff from them, how do I pay them safely? Most of them take only western Union or moneygram. I talked about escrow.com with some of them, but they are flat out rejecting!. I would like to know, normally when someone starts a business what kind of safeguard he or she puts so that 1) not handed a fake item, and 2) notscammed for money?

Thanks IN advance

Mitra

Hi Mitra,

Checking to see if goods are fake or original, Most all that have a logo that are not

originally made in china. ARE Fakes,  Example Nokia cell phones made in Finland.

All is pending on your product. Example Sony is made in china a good chance you

may get original.

The most important part is the trade infringement.

Here are a couple of sites that get in to more details of determining fake or original.

As far as Western Union, Or Money Gram Absolutely NO NO.

I say to all buyers/wholesalers, There are so many available world wide payment

methods available to most all countries and suppliers.

If supplier only requests T/T  Bank Wire or Money Gram  JUST SAY NO, AND MOVE ON.

I am sure there maybe great respectable companies that will only accept wire transfer.

BUT..... ........

Eventually the great productive and honest companies will realize. In order for their company to increase their yearly sales.

They will have to upgrade to alternative payment methods.

There are many more suppliers this year than there were last year that do accept alternative payment methods. such as MoneyBookers, Googlecheckout ,WorldPay,

Alertpay, 2checkout the list goes on and on.

Comapanies that would offer the upgraded methods of payments if a bit higher on price it is understandable.

Yet better than loosing all of your money.

All of the previous answers, everyone exactly right.... Trade infringement ,

All legit or items that do not have protected logo such as accessories etc. Or you

can even make your own brand.

Eventually, hopefully each of us buyers in the future will be able to have a on going trustworthy relationship with many great suppliers?  and not have to worry about losing..

 Am I dreaming??

Good Luck to You,

Sincerely

There is no safeguard. I've done dozens of deals and they always require a wire transfer of all the money up front. I don't do huge purchases so that they're less tempted to make a big score at the cost of future business. So far, I've been ripped off in about a quarter of all first purchases and about 60% of all second and third purchases. I'm going to start looking for Korean companies.
