Very interesting subject for foreigners like myself. Unfortunately it was not presented to be interesting and exciting, the moderator can intervene to help boost the impact, and sell the idea of this posting.

How to promote the subject of learning the Chinese Language? First and foremost strategy is to attract attention, and to make them stay interested, by making learning a fun-filled, practical and relational way.

Beg your pardon, I am confuse and have to ask, are you James or are you Joyce? Are you a Singaporean or are you a Korean?.

You do not seem like a chinese to me and you are quaint in your own way.

Kindly enlighten me.

Hi cooleyes, welcome back! Please don't "go into hiding" again.

Regarding the subject, it is quite possible to teach a new language to somebody else without having a common language in which to communicate. Or what do you guys think how babies learn? In fact, cooleyes' humorous comment about body language is not so far off. It is indeed used to teach to somebody who doesn't know a word yet.

Of course I don't know anything about the quality of this particular course, but the concept is ok.

Actually I was looking for sign languages as an answer. It awfully difficult to convey body language via a PC camera.[em1]

Today, language learning is by Podcasting.

So many IPOD, MP2 and MP3 players on the move, just download to the small thumb-size device and plug in your ear phones and you will be able to learn languages on the go.

While waiting for a taxi, or in a train, with no space to read the newspaper, you can learn a language with the Podcast program.

I have a website here with the lessons on the Chinese language learning, download to your computer, and then to IPOD for free.

http://www.peacecorps.gov/wws/multimedia/language/chinese.xml

Basic language for instruction is English, if your basic language is something else, you can search for Podcast from Chinese to your language.
