I'm new to the export business.  Can anyone tell me what requirements are necessary to export goods from the United States.  Are there tarrifs, or other fees involved if I export on a small scale, say to individuals?

It depends a little bit on what the actual products are you wish to export. There are also certain places you are not allowed to export to as well (eg Cuba) and you can get that list from the State Department or Customs.

As a general rule of thumb there are no special licenses etc that you have to have to be an exporter though. IF you know what you wish to export the easiest place to double check that it is ok for you to export then is to give you nearest Customs office a call and ask them.

Lady, this is a little more complicated. Different countries have different laws. Some laws relate to the EXPORTER but as a really really rough rule of thumb the IMPOTER is usually the one who has the most to worry about...... It would depend a lot on what country and what product.... just as an example, you don't want to try exporting booze into some countries. There are certain countries the US gov BANS you from exporting to (you REALLY need to make sure of this one thru the state dept/customs) or you just commited a federal crime.

If you want to contact me on TM rather than post what products you are thinking about, I might be able to answer you more specifically, but I am not an expert at every country or every product. I can at least make a rough guess which gov dept you should talk to about it though.

Hope that helps.
