Is it possible to import sample goods into the UK that aren't certified with CE. for inspection purposes. Is CE obligatory for imports? Would un certified goods be held at customs for instance and prevented from entering the country?

I understand that CE imports are far safer and better to deal with, the goods in question will be CE certified soon, but in the meantime I want to check them out, so I wondered if this was feasible.
