I have noticed more and more people asking for a worldwide list of people and companies that can assist with the verification of suppliers and do pre-shipment inspections worldwide so please find the following list. This is a list in progress and will be added to over time as more information comes in.
By compiling this list I am not making a recommendation of any of the listed individuals or companies. To my mind the needs of every buyer are different and therefore you really need to determine for yourself what you need from the service provider and then ensure that they can deliver. I also do not want this to become an elite list that could exclude some otherwise talented and helpful people just because they don’t have a proven track record. Everyone needs to start somewhere and so everyone is welcome to list here.
As per alibaba rules no contact details can be posted on the forums so buyers need to contact the assistants through their profile pages. In respect of the rules listed assistants should not include contact information in their avatar pictures nor signature lines.
Buyers – Have a read through the information below about what to look out for when selecting an assistant. Then just click on the links in the lists below to contact the assistants that you want to deal with.
Assistants – Feel free to post your information here. Post the country and city that you are in and the products that you can assist with. The more information you include the higher up the list I will place your name as more information is helpful for buyers. Also make sure that you include relevant information in your profile so that buyers can understand what you are offering and make contact with you. If at any time you want to be removed from the list then please let me know and I will remove you.
One warning….just because an assistant is willing to help does not mean that they are able to help. Always make sure that the person has relevant experience or knowledge for your product needs. If your product is specialized, complicated, and/or expensive you may be best to seek out a professional inspection company as assistants are generally individuals who have limits on what they can realistically do to help. When choosing an assistant it is generally best to choose one that lives in or near the city or area that your supplier is located, and also familiar with the product that you are buying.
Once again my aim here is not to have a list of recommended assistants, nor to be selective as to who I think qualifies for the list or not. That has already been done here at alibaba so we don’t need to reinvent the wheel. My intention here is just to bring together in one place all of the people who are willing or able to help buyers. As always, be careful with your money and make sure that you do your due diligence BEFORE parting with your hard earned cash.
So what makes a good assistant?
As mentioned above the determination of what is or is not a good assistant will largely depend upon what kind of assistance you are looking for.
Some considerations you may like to make could include:
a. Location of the assistant – generally speaking assistants located in the same general area as your manufacturer are more likely to have experience with local production and manufacturing conditions. Less travel time also equates to lower costs for you and most likely higher productivity for the assistant.
b. Experience of the assistant – if your product is a specialized product then finding someone with experience with that product may outweigh the above consideration of location. Some assistants may not have a proven track record as assistants but they could have extensive experience with your product. So ask lots of questions to determine how much your assistant knows about your product BEFORE you ask them to commence work for you.
c. Costs – you need to accept that the assistants do this work to make money and in most cases to make a living. As such you should expect to have to cover their legitimate costs on top of any fees that they charge. As always the cheapest offer is not always the best offer, but sometimes you do not need the most expensive service provider either. You should balance these costs with the security that employing an assistant should provide. If the assistant is no good then no matter how much money you spent on them it was money wasted.
d. Tools of the trade – if your product is a complicated or technologicallly advanced product then you should evaluate whether a typical assistant can really be of help. Perhaps in those cases you may need to invest in the services of a professional inspection company that is equipped with the tools to check the quality of the product that you are buying.
e. Impartiality – one of the biggest concerns with inspections is that inspectors can be influenced financially by the manufacturer. This can be as true for employee inspectors of large companies as it is for individual private assistants. You should never become complacent about your needs here and never place your trust completely in one person or one company. Always check and double check to make sure that what you require from them is being done.
f. Preparation – as the buyer the more prepared you are the better your success with assistants will likely be. You should ensure that you have a confirmation sample and a clear description of your technical and packaging requirements for the product. You should ensure that your assistant has access to this information so that they can determine whether production is inline with your requirements.
g. Payment – traditionally secure payment methods as recognized by westerners such as Paypal and escrow.com are not always available in the countries that you are buying from. As such you need to ensure that you check out your assistant carefully before releasing payment to them.
