YOU TOLD ME TO DO SO!!!
Post 1 of 5

Last  two weeks was the hardest time I've ever had since I joined the company.Though it has only been 3 months.[em2] My boss are deperate to expand the export business and has made a lot of efforts for many years before I join the group but in vain , the export order was very very little. I found I was very lucky when I was worried about no order then it comes not one but two deals. Gradly I think they are  great chances to build and secure a new relationship with foreign customers. I was so happy about that even though they are samll order ,even though we can hardly make any profits from the orders.I think it's not important for the first order especially we just have very little customers in foreign countries.

But my boss seems doesn't think so. He asked me to push and persuade the buyers for more quantities and then we can save some cost  maybe will make some profits from these orders. At first I felt it sounds reasonable but I still very worried about  that would scare my buyer away and make them feel uncomfortable. I was very careful to communicate with them but badly I might lose one customer. My boss hasn't blamed me for this matter but I can feel his dissatisfacation with me.However I feel a little angry and upset about this.YOU TOLD ME TO DO SO!!![em8] I am a greenhand in this field , I really have no idea is this smart or stupid. But I can't blame my boss for having me to do this terrible things!!! Because that's the way he deals the business in our local market, we have a very sucessful business in Taiwan. But if comes to the export business , should we quit our old habits to do business with new customers  in foreign country?

Please kindly share your idea and experience[em3] Any feedback is welcomed[em14]

What works in your local market will not work around the world. There are many different cultures and your local customs could be offensive to new clients abroad.

There is a very delicate balance between how hard you HAVE TO push and how hard you MAY push. If you don't push enough, obviously you won't sell very much, but if you push too much, your customer will feel uncomfortable - perhaps even worried that something might be wrong with your company - and look for another supplier.

Now, how much is "enough" and how much is "too much"? There is no other way to find that out than through experience. Just ask any old (and honest) sales man how often he made mistakes in this regard, and he will howl like a wolf and say, "way too often". That's how he became a good sales man, and you will have to learn just the same way. Tough, but doable! [em19]
